Our goal is to create the most extensive, detailed and accurate virtual 3D reconstruction of Ancient Rome. In this video you can see the whole center of the Eternal City from the air, as well as other significant areas, such ar Campus Martius, or Trastevere (Transtiberim. You can see the Forum, Colosseum, imperial Forums (Fori Imperiali, as well as famous baths, theaters, temples and palaces. This is the current progress of our project, and as you can see about 40% of all Rome, as it was in 4th century AD, is already done. This video is just a current progress overview, please watch other our videos and follow our project pages - there you'll find more detailed reconstructions and information about famous buildings and monuments of ancient Rome

Did y'all see my house It was the stone building with the terra cotta roof. People gab about Ancient Roman but living there wasn't as fun as you might think. Keep in mind there are entire sections of the city that you never see or have any reason to go to - just like today. Oh, and everywhere you go you have to walk. Traffic was always dangerous and some parts of Rome were so seedy and old you avoided them. The thing I won't miss is the stench. Rome stunk. It smelled of animal dung, sewage, death and rotten food. The tanneries in western Rome were the worst and stunk up the entire town. You prayed for a breeze in the other direction always. Pickpockets, thieves galore. Rome had its appeal; you could always find something to eat and drink and bordellos had fresh stock every other week. Civilized discourse; if you're into that kind of thing but people that today you call psychopaths were roaming free as a bird. Unless you hired a hitman to take him out which fortunately are easy to find in Ancient Rome.

The masters of architecture
Even from now I can see how they used form and function to build every street building and tower.
And coexisting with nature, every building had beauty and simplistic ingenuity.
There is no need for artsy fartsy skyscrapers that wiggle and swirl and look like a literal piece of shit.
This is the city we built, and any chaos to the form they established was a one-way ticket to f off.
By the way I love your video hopefully I live long enough to experience it virtual 3d

There are great movies that can't be appreciated in one sitting. The arts and sciences working perfectly can
weave an environment that is too rich in detail, and too quickly passing, to be absorbed by brains adapted for
medium sized objects, moving at medium speeds across the African savannah. Your video out-overwhelms
any movie I have ever seen. After more than 10 visits, my fascination is still growing, and I'm learning more and
more about Rome at every viewing. Thank you for all of this.

Dear followers, thanks for your feedback! I have one only request - please do not write comments about 'Rome was not white', 'it was brightly colored' etc. I have explained many times already, that these reconstructions already contain accurate colours according to the relevant researches. Rome was never painted in flashy colours, this is a new, now popular delusion. The colours were calm and applied sparingly. Thanks.

Beautiful, but how could this of been built, there must be an ancient lost civilization that did all of this. There is no way the Romans built this city, they must have inherited it from a missing civilization that we have zero evidence for. Ok, sarcasm off.

Incredible. I have visited the Colosseum and the Forum Romana a few times and been very impressed. This amazing video brings the full magnificence of the Roman buildings to our screens. Love it and the great memories it brought back to me.

How come so little survives today You’d think that some of those buildings would have continued to be occupied throughout the centuries thanks to their magnificence, just as we still occupy buildings from 1700 in London and elsewhere.
reply

You repeat the common mistake of only including the stone-made buildings in your reconstructed Rome. In reality, Rome at its height had a million inhabitants and vast majority of the population lived in simple huts made of wood.

Insane how they could ever fall and totally disspear. You will think their will be less and less but still strong but they never rise to power again. So sad, all their knowledge. I wanted them to keep Neros Palace.
reply

Whoever did this is an absolute genius, just an artistic genius without parallel. This is the closest a modern person can get to the glory that was Rome. If I only had a time machine.

Imagine coming from a backwards under developed part of the world and being brought to Rome and seeing it for the first time in all its splendour. You would be totally lost for words.

What is even more amazing is that you will see evidence in most all European countries that still stand even after 2 thousand years. The craftsmanship and quality is amazing.

Question to the creator. Did the city finish as abruptly around it's outside boundary Or were there more 'suburban' or rural buildings blaring off into the landscape/farms
reply

What an amazing labour of love you have created! Thanks so much for expending so much effort for our benefit! I can't wait to see this kind of model used in a movie.

It's sad we don't scale to scale city of Rome in a game like assassin's creed. They had brotherhood but the scale was so small and it was 10 years ago
reply

Amazing just incredible trying to imagine actually being there to witness everyday life. I must say it's much smaller and not a s spread out as people think

The ancients were mostly very young back then and the cities of Rome and Athens were new, fresh and beautiful. As it does we humans TIME mocks them!

questions: did the ancient inhabitants of the flats/houses already have keys for their flats/houses Were keys already invented

I read on One day in the ancient Rome written by Alberto Angela, about a 6 floors building, and I see it here! Fantastic work!
reply

Just amazing! Imagine if you could have added people, chariots and horses on the streets. It would be even more fantastic!

Can anyone explain why a 4th-century-AD city looks more pretty and beautiful than most of the modern cities in the 21st century
reply

Ricordo che diverso tempo fa non solo i filmati, ma anche la colonna sonora era stupenda. Consiglierei di tornare a quella.

I’m old enough to remember when historians scoffed at the idea that the colosseum had awnings for shade or navalbattles.

i spent few years living in rome. the summers were hot hot hot and when it rained it flooded!

I’d love to see Grand Theft Auto: Rome. Stealing chariots and pulling heists on Cesar
reply

Wow! Fascinating, does anybody know how they got water around and sewerage removed
reply

We should ponder the splendor of Roman architects-builders with deep humility.
reply

Looks beautiful and modern. Wish I could have seen ancient Rome and Egypt.

Imagine if steam engine were developed during the time of ancient roman era.
