Decebalus & The Dacian Wars
video description
I cannot recall the Roman Republic committing 100k men under the command of a single man, not even during the Punic Wars. Close to 100k like Cannae with 86k men, but not quite there. In the Empire's prime, Roman Emperors had next to no opportunity to have such a large army sent abroad for many reasons.
1. They were terrified of such a large single army throwing their support to their commanding general and declare him Emperor. Civil War!
2. If the Emperor was competent enough to lead a military campaign himself, they may not have the political stability to leave Rome for so long and allow scheming in the capital to cause him trouble.
Emperor Trajan had a lot of things lined up for him to conduct his wars against Dacia: Not only was he a competent ruler and military leader, but he had the political stability to leave Rome for so long and go on several military campaigns, as well as the might of the Empire at its height to draw from. After the Dacian Wars, Trajan invaded Mesopotamia. The Roman Legions reached the Persian Gulf.

120 years after the Roman conquest of Dacia, the Roman Empire had elected a full blooded Dacian to be their new Roman Emperor. His name was Galerius. Galerius disliked the Romans so much that he wanted to change the empires name from roman empire to Dacian Empire. Also Constantine the Great the founder of Byzantine Empire was full Dacian blooded and he moved the official Roman capital from Rome to Constantinople. As you can see we didnt disappear but instead we conquered Rome from the inside with politics.
Dacians started calling themselfs Romanians meaning citizens of Rome and as you can see we have a right to be called Romanians.
Vlach was a nickname given by the slavs to romanians because when slavs migrated through Romania the Romanians would viciously attack them. The Romanian warriors would wear wolve skins with the wolves skull on top of their head. to the Slavs the Romanians reminded them of their Pagan god Volochs which was the God of Death that appeared as a wolf.

we know about dacians more but we hide it. Actually romanian is dacian.
However romanians created a fake history to link themselves to rome in an attempt to seek help from the west during 1848 revolutions
Indo-european analysis on the romanian language is very clear: latin words are not inherited from latin but come from palasca the substrate which gave latin and slavic and other languages.
Thats why dacian/romanian is similar with latin and slavic but didnt have the historical conditions to adopt it because dacians/romanians basically assimilated everyone that came here to live.
It is an analysis any linguist can make for you if you happen to know one.
Problem is romanians are not ready to accept they are not the sons of rome, but their uncles or grandparents

The treasure of the Dacian kings, at the time Decebal was finally defeated, is estimated at about 300 tons / 300, 000 kilograms of gold. It was hidden in a river-bed. The flow of the river was temporarily diverted to bury the gold. Unfortunately a traitor disclosed the location to the Romans. Trajan inherited a bankrupt empire. The Dacian gold improved the finances so well, that the city of Rome could afford a spree of construction of new public buildings, among other things.
The gold was obtained by mining inside Dacia. The mining was extended by the Romans, and has been continued to the present time. Before the re-discovery of America by Columbus, Transylvania was the most important source of gold for Europe.

One of the most special traits that romanians inherited from dacians is the strong conservation spirit, dacians were known for being tough and never letting invaders dominated their lands so easily, besides romans, no other ancient nation was able to subdue dacians, even them had a tough run until they managed to win over this small kingdom, the same goes with romanians, they were the target of many invaders such as turks, slavs, mongols, hungarians, etc. but none of them managed to assimilate and erase culturally this nation, they kept their own national identity even when they were under different rule.

A few corrections: decebal's real name was Diurpaneu. He got the nickname of Decebal after the war in 87, where he was leading the troops as a general. Decebal means: strong as 10. He was very brave and very strong and skillful in combat and warfare, which led him to him being proclaimed as king after. Also, we know that he was the son of Scorillo(former king of Dacia, as the latest archeological proof shows us, items on which were written: Decebalus per Scorillo, which translates to: Decebal, the son of Scorillo. And yes, Duras was Diurpaneu's uncle.

I believe that Sarmatian/Scythian tradition and history is not to be underestimated, especially in military, in the conflict with the Romans. I grew up close to Ziridava and the castrum of the 13th legion, 'Gemina', that was frontier land. The legion there had recruited sarmatian cataphracts - and went to Britain with them. Dacian warriors often are shown with Scythian/Sarmatian-like gear.

I don't mean to complain, but I can only imagine how much happier my gifted college professors would have been if their students had enjoyed something called the internet or wikipedia. At the end of the day, some of our most scholarly historical works bore some resemblance to The Real Housewives of Transylvania.

poorly researched, after the defeat at Sarmizegetusa in 106, Decebal managed to gather a new army and a last battle was fought in 107 somewhere in transilvanias central hill-lands, at an unknown location today. after this battle he committed suicide.

Sarmizegetusa - read as SarmeeZehGEtoosah. Read GE as in GErmany.
It was a fortress whose name is made of 2 names: Sarmi + Get = Sarmates + Getae, 2 people of those times who lived in the area.

If I remember well after the 105. 106 war Romans stoped the taxes in all the Empire for 1 year and they had a party that lasted for about 153 days. all because of all the gold they took from Dacia.

After conquering Dacia, Trajan brought back Decebal's treasury - 330 tons of Silver and 160 tons of gold, with which he rebuilt Rome, the capital and built the Column of Trajan.

The reason they were so successful is because of their religion. They believed in some sort of Valhalla, if the warrior dies in battle they will live with their gods forever.
