The fact that American units were, in a manner of speaking, pulled off the line to reinforce south Vietnam's metro defense questions America's competency and respect for South Vietnam. It's as if the Americans didn't believe that the South Vietnamese had any business defending themselves, which is baffling. With the limited size and the distance, it looked like the Americans would hold the line between north and south and the South Vietnamese would cover the Ho Chi Minh trail.
Notice, I don't see a casualty report on South Vietnamese casualties and I never have. That lack of information is the most telling indicator that we shouldn't have been there.

It-s not actually accurate to say that the US forces were taken completely by surprise by the Tet Offensive. Military intelligence had strong indications that a large-scale offensive was about to take place, but General Westmoreland and the other top brass refused to believe them. My father, who was in Da Nang at that time, remembers that his whole unit was put on full alert at 2000 hours on the 29th January, -in expectation of large-scale enemy attacks in the early hours of 30th January-.

Imagine what would happen if the -enemy- arrived on America's soil promising us God and freedom from those who opposed liberty, we'd turn over our political counterparts and fight our so-called oppressors to the death. We have stereotypes that create hatred already with Liberals being compared to Communist and Conservatives being compared to the religious fascists who control the Middle East.

Is this supposed to be a documentary or a music video? The music is lousy, loud noise and makes it very difficult to hear the narrator. If I were to rate this for content, from what I could hear it would be 5 stars, however the noise in the foreground makes the background narration worth a 2; the frusteration further reduces it to a 1. Re-do this without the noise so we can enjoy watching it.

The United States is an evil and cunning country, and they always speak bluntly without mentioning the evil deeds of South Vietnam that cause the people to stand up against the government. It was the United States that divided the Vietnamese people, so how should we follow capitalism or democracy? While the communists have unified the nation?

Till i turned 13 years old i didn't know that USA had withdrawn the forces in Vietnam; i always knew the Americans had defeated the Japanese and the Germans with the allies. That shows the power of US mass media. If no one reads. I am 54 years old. I knew it by reading a magazine that mentioned the Tet offensive.

The world is more free by western standards because the United States has intervened with it's military. It sucks for my grandparents, seeing the prosperity in South Korea (which was only semi successful for the US) and what Vietnam is now with the US giving up.

It's amazing some of these comments. It's isn't hard to put yourself in the Vietnamese shoes. One empire after another thinking they know what's best for them when in all actuality they are only in it for themselves. Who could blame them for standing up?

Tet Offensive didnt mean to get victory for cities. Its merely a -show off- force, that even after long time US on South Vietnam, their defense still vulnerable, yet the North & Vietcong power still exist even after many casualties before.

You should do one on on how Nixon scuttled the peace negotiations that Johnson and Humphrey were on the verge of completing- an illegal and treasonous act that Humphrey decided would be too dangerous to the COnstitution to expose.

NV simply wanted it more than the US/SV. They were willing to die at a much higher rate and won the battle of attrition. There were other factors as well, but the increased willingness to die for the cause was the most important.

The Tet offensive was a colossal military victory for America. It was just LIARS like Walter Cronkite (no, he was NOT an honest journalist) and the guy in this video, that turned it into a defeat.

The liberal media lied and spun all victories into defeats. We didn-t lose a battle. Walter Cronkite used his b. s. & phony status to subvert our troops.
-Most trusted man in America -! Bull.

Thank you for this short overview. I've read many books, but this short synopsis helps me understand the TET offensive as my father hardly spoke about what he experienced in Vietnam.

The Tet offensive failed because of its brutal murdered of thousands of south Vietnamese citizens. They-re force to choose between two bad options.

Tet offensive was arranged by Ho Chi Minh and Robert Kennedy, to destroy any chance of LBJ re-election and replaced by Robert Kennedy.
