Charlemagne\'s Wars Gudfred: King of the Danes (804-810) MazterL: I do so enjoy that you point out the effect of the spread of catholocism/christiany is a major factor for the vikings. I personally believe that the construction of Danevirke, the massive earthen bolverk created from Hedeby across the Jutland peninsula, as a direct defense against this invasion by the Franks. Not to keep out the Saxons, or the keep the borders safe. It must have been a way to stop the spread of christianity. Note that Charlemange executed more than he converted.
So wonder why the vikings, 20-30 years later, took to fighting these evil people who killed all who didn't accept a new God, this christ god who wanted all who wasn't true to be killed horribly. Hearing the attrocities commited by this ruler, most kings must have been wary or outright scared. So when Lindisfarne was raided in 793. It would have been a justified action. It wasn't just raiders seeing gold and silver, they saw the same people who massacred most of northern Europe or forcefully baptised the.
And today, we live under the yoke of christian oppression, because of Charlemange and him killing a great many people. Persoanl beliefs, based upon 12+ years of study of Vikings and the late scandinavian iron age.
Again, excellent work in research and relating the facts, and tales, from a culture long ago gone.
EDIT:
The evil holy Emperor was never a just man. He was a true evil mass murderer, who's work is the basis of a thousand years of indoctrination.

2nd vid of yours I've watched today. You are just blowing my mind! I have just started my geneological search so I am still learning alot, but I was really shocked about Charlagmange attacking the Sachsens (from which the name Saxon derives. I thought they must have been friends being that Charlagmange (whom I am descended of twice) married his son Peppin to King Sachsen's (King of Bavaria) (whom I am also descended of twice) daughter Judith.
Also, I was surprised to see on your map of Denmark the town of Lund. Lund was my Father's mother's maiden name. She was 1st gen born in America, both of her parents have coming from Odense, Denmark. I had no idea there was a Lund, Denmark!

There is 1 mention of Charlemagne in the saga of Olav the holy. Not Norways first christian king, but the one that gets credit for forcing it on the Norse. When King Olavs son was born, he was not present to name him. But his poet was, Sigvat Skald. He decided to name the baby Karl Magnus. when his father arrived and asked him why that name? Sigvat Poet said then, that he named him after the greatest man that had ever lived, Charlemagne! Karl Magnus became king of Norway and Denmark and earned his own name: Magnus the Good.

Charlemagne had a valid point at the end of the presentation. In later years the French fought countless wars against their cousins. Particularly the Nordic Vikings, Anglo-Saxon England along with Celtic allies. You reap what you sew, pushing Celtic people out of France and slaughtering Angles and Saxons to the point of leaving for Britain. What he did was ensure future generations of Northern Europe a deep hatred of the French.

The part about Charlemagne weeping is hard to believe. I think that is propaganda after the fact. But it could well be that the early Viking raids were a sort of revenge. On the other hand, some vikings settled down, like in Normandy, Dublin, East England and in the Netherlands along the Rhine and in Frisia. That would not be if it were only raids.

Godfred was the only king of the Danes at the time, the Frankish sources lists those magnates that signed a peace treaty in 808 or 810(I forget which and my books are packed away for a move, and they represent the entity of medieval Denmark; IE including what is today southern Sweden.

What is the title of the first track at the beginning of the video? It's not Kevin MacLeod - Lost Time, I can't seem to find it? Any information please? I quite like it very much as a background, it gives the videos a very melodramatic meaning.

The crowning of Charlemagne by the pope was basically just political theatre - 1, Roman emperors weren't crowned certainly not by the pope and the Roman empire still existed with the Eastern Roman (byzantine) captial in Constantinople.

Charlemagne: Here's my god of love. Accept him and be blessed.
Germanic tribes: No thanks. We'll stick with our own gods, thank you.
Charlemagne: Kill them all for rejecting my god of love!

Its a common historical mistake to assume the danes and Scandinavia was not awere of the Franks. They was suffering from the Day frisian was attacked. Frisian was trading port for Scandinavians

Godfred was not king of the Danes but a regional (southern Jylland) chieftain (drotir. The first king of the all Danes was Gorm the Old, around 936, more than 100 years after Godfred.

The Danes had good reason to fear Charlemagne and Christianity. Charlemagne supposedly baptised 4000 Saxons in the river Bremen and then shortly after executed all of them.

Don't get it twisted. There's ugly everywhere, in every religion. In every man. Making positive choices and learning from our mistakes is all we can do. The vikes converted.

Wow. Terrifying yet beautifully told. Perfect music atmosphere with volume low enough that voice narration is still always clearly heard.

There is a flagrant error in the map calling spanish march to gothia capital barcelona. the concept of spanish march is totally made up.

The Franks ere the traitors to their Germanic people. They killed Germanics in the name of Roman catholicism more than any so called moors.

Very solid documentary. Unfortunately, the descendants of these noble warriors are the biggest cosmopolitan degenerates in Europe today.
