thelstan theling: The King That Never Was TheSamuraijim87: It's always an interesting question of the impact on history, the What ifs of the early death of the designated heir, inevitably leaving either a regent or less competent ruler. Most famously of course is Edward the Black Prince, but so many times, this has occurred and shaped the course of history.
One does wonder why Aethelstan Atheling and Edmund did not forcibly overthrow their father and pack him off to a monastery.
I'm excited to see Godwin and Canute arrive on scene and the change that they will bring and the story of the North Sea Empire.
Great video as usual Pete.

5: 58 Hang on? Sigeferth and Morcar were from New York City? I can picture them now at the St. Brice's Day Massacre, lining up their Viking foes and declaring Ayyyy! Screw yous, yous Doerty Raats! before pulling out their Tommy Guns and mowing 'em all down Bada-Bing, Bada-Boom.

Thanks for this. They didn't have the history major way back when I was in college so I got a minor in it. Your videos along with the graphics remind me of some of my professors. Very informative and the right length too. Keep em coming! A big thanks from America.

Excellent work as always mate, any chance you will cover early frankish history? Clovis in particular, perhaps even Roland. I think this could be a very interesting subject.
Thanks for your hard work, please keep it up!

Hey I love your videos man. This is so cool honestly. I had a question though like would you ever cover something like Game of Thrones because I think you'd be good at lore from fantasy as well as keeping to normal history.

I always feel so sorry for the regular people that just wanted to farm a bit and just live with family and friends. It seems that those small poor villages were slaughtered just to make a point! Sigh.

It's interesting how his daughter or sister (can't remember, married Malcolm III King of Scotland and their children ended up ruling England. No that's called karma

Amazing that Athelstan was buried in Winchester, when even his namesake the first king of England wasn't! But that's a whole different story of dynastic rivalries

Thank you! So very informative. This king and his sons are my ancesters and I can finally understand where and how they fit in my genealogy!

Great work, enjoyed the video thoroughly. Do you think you could perhaps consider doing a video on the attack of Lindisfarne?

This was great!
It really made me think. And it just hit me- Sweyn/Sven is Scandinavian for Steven/Stephen.
Thank you.
