The Battle for Truk Attol (Part 1) - Battle 360 - History george: I lived on chuuk as a child for a year or so until my parents moved to yap. I left yap when I was over 10 years old. I returned to chuuk many times through the years. Was at a hotel in the 70s when guys showed up looking for a known sunken submarine but not yet found. They showed me a lot of stills of the attack. Even saw how the boat or small ship got hit and headed towards the land. It's the one that was in front of the hotel. Way back when I was there and later coming and going the masts from the sunken ships were still sticking up. Long ago they all rusted off. Umm, chuuk is a volcano and the reef is the outer edge of it.

Places like Truk (pronounced, and now spelled Chuk (ch oo k, are the reason the United States Military is so good (invented) SEAD (Supression of Enemy Air Defenses, by the second strike of the day the Hellcats were just strafing and bombing. There was no opposition (either fighters or anti-aircraft, in 6 strikes they sank 28 ships, disabled some 40 AA sites, cratered EVERY runway, and shot down nearly a 100 aircraft! One of the reasons that Chuk is one of the world's greatest places to wreck dive is because of those four strikes.

if only japan won coral sea and midway and germany won stalingrad and took gibraltar. also einstein should have made the bomb for germany not the us. then germany would take the suez canal and the rest of the middle east will follow and both Germany and japan will be nuclear superstates with only the usa to share the world. because once germany nukes london britain will surrender herself and her territories. then the two states can take over the rest of the eastern hemisphere while japan takes hawaii.

comment art end likely not accurate. -Over 900 tonnes of bombs dropped by in one day by aircraft from enterprise. So, if they had 100 bombers (fighters don't usually carry bombs, when they do, limited to about 500 lb, which they didn't, maybe 60 at most, they would have had to average over 9 flights in 1 day (waay unlikely) to surpass 900 tonnes, At most, carrier based bombers of this era could carry 1 tonne of bomb.

-The Battle for Truk Atoll. -
Give me a break. The Japanese left the island the week before because they knew the Americans were bringing overwhelming firepower to the former Japanese Stronghold. Truk was a WALKOVER for the Americans. Anybody calling it a -battle- just wants to sell T-Shirts.

Did an adult review this video prior to release? Why, oh why, the horrible intrusive music? This is pitiful and barely tolerable. You just might ponder changing your format to something that focuses more on educating the public. Best of luck, but this is terrible.

This video is too dramatic. Lies don't help. The battles were exciting enough that lies are not needed nor is exaggeration.
The Jap89 127mm AA has NEVER hit a plane at 25000 ft. must less -picked it off- as this video suggests lol

Enterprise, loneliest American carrier no more.
8 carriers, 6 battleships, 10 cruisers, numerous destroyers and lets thrown in a few subs as well into this one of numerous flotillas.
American production at its finest.

The Japanese really left their mark over here. You can see it in the language, the names of the older people, the food, and some of the people look mixed with Japanese. There-s a lot of Japanese influence in Chuuk.

Apakah tidak ada satupun pesawat Amerika yg tertembak jatuh dalam pertempuran ini? Chanel ini terlihat hanya seperti propaganda, tidak ada unsur pendidikan sejarah maupun pembelajaran bagi umat manusia.

Can't give it a like when you can't say ATTOL correctly. is the way you pronounce the -A- totally wrong. the first two letter should sound similar to -hat- not -hay- in proper English.

It is now called CHUUK. Visiting this group of islands is amazing, you'll discover Japanese vessels, artilleries bunkers, light house, and alot of ruin buildings and much more. My home.

This will happen to China if they did something crazy in the Spratlys. Their man-made islands over there will be sitting ducks happily receiving guided bombs and cruise missiles.

Terrible. Target audience must be 8 year olds. Very little historical analysis. If they put all the 3D rendering budget into research this could have been a great vid

Having known a couple of people from the atoll the correct pronunciation is CHOOK (almost like someone calling chickens. On my bucket list is to go dive the atoll one day!

Imagine how good these videos would be if it didn-t look like they were from a ps2 game. These need to be remastered. I would absolutely buy that DVD

Pronunciation issues aside, I've always liked this narrator's voice for this series, just the right intensity, not over the top. It just fits.

Torpedo planes but no reliable torpedoes, bombers only reliable planes at attacking ships. Great planning using torpedo planes for runways

In 1975, I flew into Truk. You could see the sunken ships at the bottom of the lagoons, still leaking fuel oil 30+ years after the battle.
reply

notice that torpedo bombers have contact bombs and they're sent to destroy the airfields while dive bombers are sent to destroy ships?
