Did this bread cause the Salem Witch Trials? - Ancient Recipes With Sohla
video description
Lithuania
Food allergies- I-m wondering if anybody had ever written or developed recipes (prior to the last 50-60 years) for food allergies. Sling that same theme is -vegan - recipes. I-m interested because I have food allergies in my family going crack to my mom- with my diagnosis coming close to age 50. I-ve attempted to do research without success. I-ll hope to see something! Cheers!

-It sounds like witchcraft but it-s nature-
Honey witchcraft IS nature lol. Im a practicing witch and an occult historian, and witches have long known about psychoactives, and in fact used (and continue to use them) in rituals to this very day. This is why I don-t believe ergot was the cause of the Salem hysteria. It was most likely just the religious folk believing the kids and getting into a tizzie. Witches fully take advantage of psychoactive substances and are incredibly aware of what they can do.

Samhain is an interesting holiday because it's very somber. It's about the dead, how they have gone and we will one day go to, the end of harvest and the beginning of winter's hunger and hardship. But it's also about raising the spirits and giving yourself joy and hope for the coming months. Soul cakes don't usually make my rota bc of the saffron and I usually focus on the more savory meals the ancient Celts would make, such as fire roasted beef cooked in a bread bowl, but I might make some this year

-All-rye bread is not a thing- - cries in German!
We have wonderful high- and all-rye breads in Germany, and (with the exception of Pumpernickel, they are wonderfully aromatic and not dense like a brick. They are denser than wheat bread for sure, but still not like clay or anything. Right now I have a fresh sourdough rye bread at home that is 80% rye, and with a bit of butter it is the tastiest thing out there.

3: 08 The ergot fungus contains mainly an alkaloid called ergotamine which is toxic and causes hallucinations. LSD is not extracted from the fungus, rather ergotamine extracted from the fungus is used as a precursor for making LSD. The hallucinations of LSD will diver a lot from the ones caused by the fungus, which is also toxic in contrast to LSD(used in normal recreational dosages)

I really loved this episode but i've noticed she made 2 mistakes. One is that she put the cornmeal still hot on top o the yeast and that kills the bacteria on the yeast. And then she only let it ferment for 1 hour. Usually naturally yeasted breads ferment for 12 hours. These may be some of the reasons why the bread was so dense. I'd love to see Sohla try this recipe again: D

The rye bread actually makes sense because in winter and bad harvest the food would have been scarce and the usual hearty stews and soup would be much thinner to stretch what food they had. So the very heavy rye paired nicely with something like a broth or thin soup or stew. It felt like a full meal even though it was probably a bowl of thin soup and a small chunk of bread.

In Newfoundland Canada -mummering- is a Christmas tradition where friends & family will visit your home disguised in ridiculous outfits composed of stuff from around the house & when they visit you have to guess who they are- I had no idea it came from an actual Irish tradition! Newfies usually have Irish roots, I know I certainly do lol

The Dark Ages. The Spanish Inquisition. The Salem Witch Trials. The Holocaust. All fueled by rabid mobs attacking: intellectuals, artists or, basically, anyone more prosperous than themselves. The American massacre of Black Wall Street, is just another example. MAGAts attacking science during the pandemic is the most recent.

Oh man that fungus seems like it's a bit more potent than shrooms, but we know that shrooms help with a lot of mental illness n can even give ppl a spiritual experience. I think they should study that fungus, that grows on wheat, like scientists/Drs are studying shrooms & it's benefits for people with certain mental illnesses

As you know; the element in Ergot that causes hallucinations, was isolated by Scientists in Austria after WW2. Then magically it was released over the counter in America( BioWarfare) LSD killed thousands! Many on it truly thought they could fly, causing great accidents and death! Finally it was made illegal!

facts is The salem witch trials hysteria of 1692 was caused by the Puritans strict religious standards and intolerance of anything not accepted with their scripture. The largest account of witch trials as well as deaths by witch trials occurred in Salem, a village heavily populated with the Puritans.

No, actual witchcraft started the witch trials. Its not hard to go back and read the accounts, testimonies, confessions, then compare that with what we call witchcraft today. Most of those accused were in fact guilty. They broke a known law and suffered the consequences.

After first ingesting LSD in 64, went from being an upper C student to straight A, throughout College in Electrical Engineering. I retired at 60 very well off with no financial worries. Don't believe the lies.

I did a report on this for my history of medicine class in college. I always found it fun to say claviceps purpurea, and weirdly enough, I was muttering it to myself before I saw this in my recommended.

Cool production, very interesting about the mold and trippin on rye bread. That vst drum beat makes it all feel cheap. I don't know who's idea that was but it's not good. Well done again, Sohla!

What temperature was the cornmeal when it was dumped right on top of the yeast? If it was too hot that may have hurt the yeast and impacted the fermentation, causing it to not leaven as much.
