The fact is that since 1945 the USA has maintained continual military dominance at sea and in the air in the western Pacific. It has numerous air and naval bases, powerful allies such as Japan, South Korea etc, and two powerful fleets, each bigger and more powerful on its own, than most nation's entire navy. Thus since 1945 the US has maintained the ability to potentially control the access of China to the seas. This position has gradually been undermined by the success of the Chinese economy by providing the funds to modernise Chinese military forces. It is in the air and at sea where a technological edge is most decisive. In addition the Chinese have been trying to improve their ability to defend themselves against a US naval blockade by expanding their air defence zone by the development of offshore air bases. They have also been trying to extend the range of their navy along their trade routes, by acquiring logistics bases in Djibouti and allegedly in other places such as Sri Lanka. It is such developments which the US deeply resents, jealously guarding its military supremacy in the western Pacific and Indian Ocean, and is leading to growing tension with the USA which might decide soon to carry out a preventative war to strangle China and set it back while it still has the strategic advantage.

The whole video is historically inaccurate past 1: 49. President Truman did 3 things? He wasn't even President past Jan. 1953. Eisenhower was President at the end of the Korean War in July 1953, ending it was one of his campaign pledges. The shelling of Quemoy & Matsu Islands was in the late 50s. This video is poorly researched & written. The way the narrator pronounces Kuomintang (should be more like Gwo-ming-dan) also reveals a complete ignorance of the subject matter.

Seems like these huge superpowers love leaving unfinished business and grey areas in order to reheat old conflicts later when they might be useful and sell a lot of weapon in the meantime to each side. The examples of countries botched unity are countless: Abkhazia, karaback, Taiwan, Kashmir, Cyprus, Donbass, Iraqi Kurdistan, Transinistria, Kosovo, North/South Korea.

After he signed an alliance agreement with the Soviet Union, he went to war with the United States in North Korea, and the United States did not dare to use nuclear weapons against the Soviet Union's allies. Today China can easily annex taiwan, China have the largest Navy in the World and the largest GDP PPP. USA would do nothing to protect Taiwan, maybe send thoughts and prayers. USA were losing to rice farmers in vietnam and desert people using flip flops in afghnistan, while China was focusing in build a strong Economy and Military.

There was such a thing called the Korean War 1950 to 1953 which strained most of the military power for PLA. Nuclear was not as big of a deterient back then as the General Douglas MacArthur also did plan to use nuclear as the China pushed his northern expidtion forces back during the Korean war.

Why did China conquer Heinan when Chiang had the navy and air force is a question I'm now interested in, although it's probably got a relatively simple answer that doesn't need a summarizing video; I'll go check Wikipedia sometime.

The naval power gap that existed between China and America in the 1950s was massive. That gap is largely closed and China has nukes. The only thing keeping China out of Taiwan today I think is economics. Taiwan needs nukes.
