Why did the British Attack China Again? - The Second Opium War
video description
I made the connection between what India had done to the Chinese during the British Empire days, and Chairman Mao took on India after he gained control of China. Mao was making good to revenge the pain and suffering India had exacted on Chinese.
Now with its -golden era- all but gone, poacher now turns game keeper. The UK is preaching human rights to the world. How ironic. The UK is one of the members in the G7. This organization is never slow to preach human rights to everyone. But it so happens that G7 is made up of colonizers, and war criminals. Among them, Japan stands out for the war crimes it committed in Nanjiang, China. And of course the war crimes by the British Empire are well known but never discussed by these -poachers turned game keepers-.\r\n

I was talking about Falkland Island with couple English friend, they believe Falkland island should belong to British even it is far away from England, because of democracy, the people living there want to be British, they voted so. Then I said my view: because it used to be your colonization, and people living there are mostly British/ descendant of British, imaging 20 Millions of Chinese people immigrant to UK, and we do nothing but keep delivering babies, 20 yrs later we have 60 million -Chinese- British, and we all vote a -Chinese- prime minister on election, then the -Chinese- PM started a vote of -Shaw we join China- since he is listening to publics voice, and unfortunately 51% said -yes-, since there are sooooo many -Chinese- British now. Now the question is, does or should UK belong/join China?
They said well I don-t thinks so. -
That-s kinda weird, but that-s true

I know it-s politically correct to blame the British and make them the bad guys, but the fact is China at the time weren-t called -The sick men of Asia- for nothing. The country was vulnerable from outside influence because they could not run their own country effectively.
Were the British justified? Of course not. But since the dawn of civilization, weak countries have always been dominated by stronger ones, and right or wrong, that-s how it works.
I-m sorry, but I don-t buy into the -oh no! The British were evil! - nonsense.
Weaker countries have always been dominated by stronger ones, and that-s a fact.

Back in the mid 60s an American religious guy who was allowed to enter China during the Maoist regime when China was completely locked down to foreigners, was invited to speak to our school about what he saw. The thing I remember as a disinterested teenager, is when he said he was talking to an elderly Chinese man as he crossed a river in a boat and the old man said to him; -Come back in 1000 years and lets see who is still going to be here-. Don't know why, but that stuck with me all these years.

In the 1600's and 1700's, China was expanding and conquering lands such as Tibet, Xinjiang, Sichuan, etc. Then in the 1800's China began to be conquered. Shows you how quickly a power can fall with inept leaders.

This is one-page of bitter history that every chinese will learn in our history book. The only way you get away from western invasion is being strong to protect yourself. World is still a cruel place.

British? The British empire was as British as I am Japanese. In name only! The English have always held the most power and they are Germanic. About as opposite to being British as you can get.

PS: You should do the Battle of Tapae next. The Dacian Roman wars are incredible. I think they are the most fascinating ones.

William Gladstone was trully a humane and moral politician, and not only on China. He was against the continued Ottoman enslavement of the Balkans.
