Why did Czechoslovakia Collapse?

Why did Czechoslovakia Collapse? Good video overall, but there is also one little fact which maybe worth to mention, in Czechoslovak army there was a lot of Slovak officers. Most profesional soldiers were Slovaks. Army is always good option for people from less wealthy regions to make career (Don t take me wrong here, but there were regions in Slovakia which are simply far from the center and were very rural for long time. On the other hand Czech lands were a center of Austro--Hungarian industry, because we had coal and disciplined workers and yes we took great advantage from that, until comunists totaly ruined our economy.
Anyway it would be a problem for goverment in Prague to order army to act against a will of Slovaks. But the main reason was simply that, we are peaceful people I guess.
Btw we are not in Eastern Europe. ;)\r\n

1/ Defective highlighting of countries. Border areas with a preponderance of German population are also Bohemia and Moravia.
2/ The creation of Czechoslovakia did not create any new nation.
3/ At the time of the creation of Czechoslovakia, the concept of Eastern Europe was something completely different. Austria-Hungary was always understood as part of Central Europe. The concept of Eastern Europe in sensu lato is a consequence of the Second World War and Soviet imperialism.
4/ The Sudetenland became part of Nazi Germany (for the first time ever in history) as a result of the shameful Munich Agreement, in which France and Great Britain participated with Germany and Italy without the participation of Czechoslovakia.

This is one of the many proofs that the post-1989 regime was not democratic at all, but was dictated by criminals who were commanded, protected and corrupted by Eastern or Western oligarchs. just to ensure that they would formally promote the predatory foreign oligarchs interests, against the will and against the interests of the Czech and Slovak majority.

I can understand (kinda) the usage of -Eastern europe- term if it's to reffer Czechoslovakia During and after communism, but use it in context for the first democratic czechoslovak republic. When it was one of the few countries in europe with democratic and -western- values, where Prague was more west then Vienna. BRUH --- please never do that again

I studied modern Czechoslovak history. One thing no one talks about is that Vaclav Havel was an alcoholic, a dilettante, and Slovaks hate him to this day. I tried to find academic papers on this topic after this course, but conveniently there are no such papers. Just memories of my Slovak stepfather talking about this politician.

Fun fact. Language between Czechia and Slovakia is very similar and and thanks to the dialects of Czech and Slovak there is no barrier, so it is very difficult to assign a dialect whether it is Czech or Slovak. The Moravian dialect is a little closer to Slovak, but it's completely at the border fluent

This is a lesson on how to separate maturely. I wish Yugoslavia would've separated peacefully as well. But no, Serbia just had to be like -you can't leave me or I'll destroy you-. Sometimes you just need to accept someone leaving and ask yourself why they left you in the first place.

I think a large number of Czechs and Slovaks find it offensve to mis-label the the country as Eastern European and they want to be known as Central European. Indeed, they are the center of Europe. Look at a map. This geographical error is a holdover from the old Soviet era.

We collapsed due to divide&conquer tactics from the western elites. First they divided and weakened us and other post- soviet countries (think Yugoslavia) and then we were acquired by the eu and nato. slavic nations are a thorn in the eyes of the roman empire a. k. a. eu.

The Czech Republic should make one country with Poland. Our flags are way too similar. Slovakia should make a union with Poland because our languages are too similar. And so on but not with the present Polish puppet leaders subservient to foreign powers, of course; )

Sounds like a positive outcome to me. Just splitting of power so the governments are more localised and can listen to the specific problems of the people while also being in co-operative terms with the other side so people won't feel soo seperated either.

Just looking at Hungary and Slovakia today, both are run by semi fascist Authoritarian governments. The only difference is Slovakians had to make a coalition to put their right wing party in power. Hungary already has a dicatator.

If the title itself is nonsense, i. e. -Why did Czechoslovakia Collapse? -, it is obvious that it is not worth watching any further. Czechoslovakia did not collapse, but was dissolved, there is a big difference.
reply

Just tell the hidden truth. The West, especially America, does not want to prove that in socialism everyone can live decently, and there must be no overrich families that will contort the world.

In Hungary we have a proverb: Slovakian people is one - out of Czech people - that who can speak Hungarian.
It can demonstrate that our history and predestination are common in this region.

one of shtiest decisions a nation has made for itself in history, greedy politicians and foreign service influence has destroyed what otherwise could have been a great project

They didnt collapse they parted. Peacefully and for the best. People got more control. Czechia improved, Slovakia fell a bit behind. But they had independecy at least.

I was in Czechoslovakia in 1989 November and when the iron wall came down My Czech partner explained to me it was an amicable devoice a couple of year-s later

It's always interesting how our history is described from the -outside-, and this was a pretty nice video! Also big kudos for the pronunciation of the names: )

It was the plan of the west to break up all countries in pieces. Czeckoslovakia, yugoslavia, on and on. I worked in both Bradislava and Prague. Almost same

Well explained, as a Czech, I approve this mini-documentary, even the pronounciation of the czech names and words was accurate. :) Greetings from CZ! ;)

When they said they didn't want the communist party, I don't blame them cause people wished for freedom. I visited Prague last year. I learnt so much.
reply

It did not collapse. Both groups simply decided to go back to the way it should be, we were, always 2 different groups and this simply formalised it.
reply

Wow. Kudos to the people of both (or same) nations for peaceful resolution of all conflicts again and again and still keeping the harmony intact.
reply

Czech nature is to stay calm as long as possible. Dont't fight and wait what happens. Because you don't want any trouble. Just have another cold beer.
reply

Excellent video, historically accurate, and I appreciate the narrator's attempt to Pronounce The Czech and Slovak names correctly. Well done!
reply

Hard to take seriously when narrator doesn't even realize that all words in these languages are accented on the first syllable.
reply

The Czech Republic and Slovakia is a rare example of peace despite separation. It's the people who needs appreciation than leaders
