Why is Liechtenstein a Country?

Why is Liechtenstein a Country? Beside said attributes (luck, innocence, diplomacy, lets not forget its geographical position. It is situated at the periphery of both the German Empire and the Austrian Empire, while backed up by neutral Switzerland from the other side. Another German speaking state could not have held its independence, however hard it had tried, simply because of being completely surrounded by one or two much larger empires.\r\n

Surprised that Leichtenstein has survived independently so long, one would think one of her neighbors would have taken it over long ago. Perhaps one day it will be incorporated into another country.
With prosperous Germany, next door, I wonder if the people of Leichtenstein would vote to become a German state if a referendum for it was available?

Because we europeans were pationate worshippers of the god HUUUUURFGH who governs bordergore. The reason why HRE exists is not Christianity. we really loved ugly Borders so much that we had a pack of like 900 duchies in central europe because we can.

I've always been fascinated by small countries with big histories, and Liechtenstein is definitely one of them. I learned a lot from this video, and I'm definitely going to do some more research on the country. Thanks for sharing!

In short, after Napoleon's defeat there was a German Confederation of 39 states, in which Lichtenstein could build up its structure as a state. Later, neither Austria-Hungary nor the Third Reich sought to incorporate Lichtenstein.

More videos on micro-nations please! Nauru, San Marino and Grenada would be a good start.
A video on the Native American reservations would be nice too. CGPGrey has been promising one for years but has never delivered. ---

I thought switzerland is -obligated- to defend liechtenstein, we also represent them in some diplomatic things. Dk when switzerland did promise to defend liechtenstein, would be interesting to know when that was.

Liechtenstein is the only nation to have participated in a war and come back with a negative number of casualties. When returning home from that war, the contingent brought a friend along!

They serve with us in the Swiss Army. They have the Swiss Franc. (Allthough as I served in the army I know, Switzerland wudnt defend Liechtenstein in a war, but probably wud after all.

One day, people will watch this documentary, and wonder where we went wrong as the new world order will have Liechtenstein as the sole world super power.

The lineage of the Royal Family there is almost strictly male-line/agnatic, with some male-preference primogeniture added to the mix.
