How was Egypt conquered by the Ottomans in just 1 Year? The Mamelukes had a fatal weakness: They were the military elite of Egypt, but they were not native Egyptian. So it was difficult for them to mobilize the full resources of the country for war.
Also, unlike Safavid Persia, the Levant and especially Egypt is mostly open terrain with few defensive mountains, forests, etc.
So while the Ottoman defeated the Safavids several times but could never conquer Persia, one big victory over the Mamelukes enabled them to conquer Egypt.\r\n

I don't think many people understand the importance of this. In just 8 quick years, Ottomans tripled in geographical size, filled up their treasures, took the caliphate and became the warden and protector of all muslims around the world and ended the mamluks, who previously defeated mighty mongols in their almost 300 year old history.

By betraying only they could conquer egypt and by buying the badass heyir bey unless that the Egyptian army with the mamluks rulers could defeat them BTW we smashed them in the 19th century with Mohamed Ali and was about to end the ottoman empire unless they asked for the European help
reply

Its simple really: mamluks hade made their whole country dejure territory and when the ottomans still using ck3 mechanics used the invade kingdom causes belli on the first battle the sultan if the mamluks was captured in battle and gave immediate 100% war score for the ottomans

Shah ismail the persian king fought against sultan salim with an army about 30 thousand men and killed about 60 thousand ottomans without any guns. He was a genius of wars and despite losing the war in chaldiran he made the 200 thousands ottomans army get out from Iran

You forgot to mention that the desert of Sina is hard to pass and Tumanbay thought that there will be enough time to reorganise. It is not exactly a last minute call but the Ottoman army, which never went into desert before, past Sina desert very quick.

tut tut tut, wrong. The maluks did bring artillery, but they were out of range on the battlefield. Ottoman sipahi cavalry retreated luring the mamluk charge into the ottoman artillery while mamluk artillery was too far back.

They were truly the 'sick man of Europe. ' The thing is, all those territories they -conquered- were already under Muslim rule. But guess what: the bigger they are, the harder they FALL! And they did

I think it might have been better if Automan and Mumluks joint-handly attacked Shias Safavid Emperor in stead of fighting among them, and this is one of the reason why I don-t like Automans.
reply

Safavids are not a Persian state.
Ottoman Anatolian Turks, Safavids are states founded by Azerbaijani Turks.
they fought amongst themselves only because of the separation of sect.

For --cks sake, 1: 55 - it is not Persia, it is Turkish dynasty of Safavids; you are spreading -Eurocentric- concepts, misleading people and neglecting Turkic elements in the region
reply

Fun fact: the Mamluks themselves were Turkic slaves from Central Asia. Due to their fighting prowess, they were initially brought there for the protection of the Sultan.

Tens of Thousands of Ottomans were killed in Yemen.

reply

Dear dear, completely forgot to mention the central role of cannons in this entire war between the two. Without it, none of these makes sense nor historical

You know what strikes me(as an old man) is no matter how big or how powerful the empires get. there is always corruption to destroy them.
