Ataturk was actually lucky to have as an opponent one of the most pathetic greek governments in the history of Greece. They replaced the good generals who fought in the balkan wars and WW1 with generals who barely fought in the balkan wars and didn't keep up with the new strategies of ww1. But above all, they supported the pro king party. Therefore, they took these positions. In the battle of Ankara, the greek army was so close to win that Ataturk was ready to leave the battlefield. When he saw the greek army retreat because of the lack of ammunition, he thought it was a trap. He couldn't believe his eyes when he understood how much lucky he was. Turkey won the war because of the National Schism in Greece.

I argue that Kamel ruined Turkey- had he not interfered lands could have restored to their native populations thus leaving Turkey with a true Turkish population and no worries to be a big boy. They could have just been a peaceful post- empire country

Not only did Ataturk save Turkey in terms of land, we got back our Turkish culture away from the medieval ottoman religious zealots. The west hate us for historic reasons the east hate us for abolishing the caliphate and secularism.

tbh every war has ethnic cleansing and war crimes, especially when you're in as desperate of a situation as turkey was. Doesnt mean i condone it but its just a fact of war and human nature so its whatever.

Okey we will gloss over the almost 1 million anatolian Greeks and 1. 5 million Armenian dead that kemals nationalists caused. or the population exchange
reply
