40 and 39 can be ignored temporarily because they can be made from smaller numbers. The remaining are 20-4, 20-3, 203, 204. With 4 arrows, you have 80 4 lots of /- 3, 4 in some combination. With 5 arrows, it's 100 5 smaller bits, and with 6 arrows it's 120 /- 6 smaller bits. Only with 6 arrows can you get the /- to exactly match up to get you to 100. And you can't merge any pairs of them back into the 39 and 40 arrows.

Notice that each score can be written as A) nx51 or B nx52 also notice that 100= 20x5 to reach 20x5 we have to add either ABB or AAAB only in these cases you can fom extra groups of five. with any other combination will be impossible to form 20 groups of five.

I noticed that 100/6 is about 16. 67, meaning some combination of 16s and 17s will do the trick.
From there it's just guess and check
