I really enjoyed this video, thanks Gareth a great deal! The one thing that confused me is that chord V for bar 7, as Gareth explained, is [G B D], not [G Bb D]. I thought the chords are made up from the notes of the key. In this case, we are in the key of C minor, and the notes of C minor are C, D, Eb, F, G, Ab, and Bb. Thus, technically speaking, chord V should be [G Bb D], not [G B D] because B is not a note of C minor. In addition, this should not have anything to do with harmonic minor or melodic minor. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I hope to hear from Gareth as soon as possible. Thanks so much !!!

I see the very goodwill and the afford to try to help and explain..but here is how to write and to compose: You just do it. You have to hear it, feel it, know it from within, be inspired, learn, learn, learn try, try, try, live your life and think about it, meditate, do whateveryouhavetodo to become a vessel filled with music.... no theory needed...it can sometimes help, but ii is in itself lifeless and useless...everything else is just academic nonsense...If there is no voice inside, forget it and become something else.

Very clear, thank you. I'm watching your videos so I can improve my skills in arranging four part acappella, but everything you've posted has got some relevance somewhere. I am self-taught and your videos have pulled together the threads of a lot of islands of knowledge. Do you have a video on four-part writing in a minor key ?

18:40 says bar 8 ends with tonic so understand, with any notes from chord one of the tonic C natural minor and for an example, he plays the harmonic minor. no issue because chord 1 was the one you need to see. but why he played the harmonic one as an example just after talking about the tonic. who knows?

Hi Gareth, could we have a melody using a -natural- minor scale that uses the same key signature as the major scale and without any accidental, i.e., no extra sharp or flat other than those in the key signature ? If the answer is No, when exactly will we ever use natural minor scale ? Thanks so much !!!

How could you score 3 quavers 1 semi quaver and a crotchet in 2nd measure in the time signature of 6/8?
6/8 simply means 6 quavers in one measure or one bar but in 2nd measure its 3 quavers 1 semi quaver and a crotchet which equals to 5 quaver and a semi quaver.its funny

Hi Gareth. Would placing courtesy flats on A and B in bar 3 increase the exam mark? And is the student expected to repeat the bequadro on the second B in bar 7 although it is not necessary since you already have one before it in the same bar?

I have a theory exam in the next 2 weeks. I have a question the melody time signature is 6/8 and it's tempo is moderato. In 6/8 a beat is counted as a dotted crotchet beat and moderato is about 100s. So the melody will be very quick or not?

Also, for passing notes between thirds, I've noticed that sometimes there will be an accidental that isn't the key signature. How do you know what passing notes are between a certain third? Thank you again!

Is it just me or do the first and fifth bars sound just -slightly- like the opening of The Legend of Zelda's main theme? -
Anyways, thx for the amazing video; it was really helpful!
