Do you think that red flags only apply to romantic relationships? Well, they can also apply to friendships too. Relationships are special bonds we form with others and these bonds are models for new relationships and teach us what works and what doesnt. But there may be times when we overlook certain negative aspects because

I had a toxic friend. I only realized it after a trip to the pharmacy with my husband. We were sitting in the car, waiting for a script to be filled, drinking coffee. It was a good time. Then I suddenly had a strange thought. I have to get back soon or 'friend' will be mad at me.
I was hanging out with my HUSBAND. I suddenly realized that I was in some kind of strange and constrictive relationship that I hadn't asked for.
I told her I was going to spend some time with my family, just a week. Two days later we were out on our patio and we overheard them on their patio talking with some other friends. I'm not needy so I was happy she found someone else to hang with for a while. Then we overheard her say, Oh yeah, those people over there, yeah they have issues. I mean they have ISSUES. and then they laughed.
The only issues we had were that my husband was a veteran and we were fighting with the VA. Other than that nothing.
When I confronted her, she claimed she thought I'd called off our friendship.
I asked her for a week off. She couldn't even give me two days.
I cut her out and never looked back. Other people we both associated with kept telling me she was talking crap about me, but most of my small circle had known me longer than her so they didn't go along with it. Eventually, she was out of all our lives and the world moves on.
The only thing is now, I just stick with what friends I have. I don't go out of my way to make friends anymore.

I used to have this friend who didnt like that I hung out with other people, BUT I DIDNT COMPLAIN WHEN SHE HUNG OUT WITH HER FRIENDS BRUH- and she would get mad over petty things like, say if I wouldnt respond to her calls because I was genuinely busy. She would keep calling me and say I was ignoring her and being rude even though I was hanging out with my family. And when she doesnt respond to my call shed get mad because WOW SHOCKER! She was busy. She also kept pointing flaws out and told me I made it boring but she makes it fun and I thought there was so many things wrong with it me. So when I broke off the relationship, she said how she felt like that for weeks and apparently, I WAS THE BULLY. I tried explaining to her what she did that was hurtful, and she didnt care. She just- I hate her I get that I could have been doing something wrong, but- I tried caring and she didnt take any of it.

I would like to share my own personal experience and a red flag you shouldn't ignore. If they say they can't change or mature as a person. Had I listened to this I wouldn't have had developed this social anxiety and this constant fear of a fight breaking out when I'm chatting with friends. I'll just say this, they were a former friend of someone in high school who was very openly a bad person and immature for someone in middle school. This former friend of mine would later apologize for his actions and we became friends. I wasn't expecting them to change but at the time I didn't think their behavior was something part of them. I thought it was a phase and I wouldn't be affected because we were friends. Please trust your gut and don't end up with a 5 yearlong friendship that ends with anxiety and this constant fear of saying the wrong thing that could start a pointless argument that would end a friendship.

I recently realized I've been used so much by my friends and my sister that it drained my energy.
1) Friends/CoWorkers: they would typically fawn you then asks tons of favor making you think they really need help but in reality, they are just taking advantage of you. Once I noticed I hardly rest because of them, I detached
2) Sister: She never realized what her problems are and manipulate me into pitying her after saying sorry in general then use you again. It was draining. She'd force her thoughts on me and won't accept the fact the She and I are TWO entirely different people.
P. S. I feel lonely sometimes being alone but definitely I feel more free and less drained by negative energy

reply

And the consequences of those red flags:
#1: They use you and use the relationship as a cover
#2: and you're alone at their mercy, nobody's gonna come to help you
#3: they never give, they only take; or they only give burdens and tasks
#4: to them, it's never enough; and if they happen to congratulate you, it's to put you down even more
#5: or drain your energy and the good you have through the relationship
#6: you're not a friend to them, you're just their servant or even toy, you'll never be their equal
You end up broken or even broke, while those people had their fun with you while using you

Could you do some videos on how to prevent someone from going to the dark side as in to stop a nice person from becoming a mean person kinda like the preventing suicidal thoughts from people, I just think that would be interesting. Anyway great video Psych2Go: )
Edit: I think you should go deeper into manipulators because as one Ive noticed there are some really powerful manipulators Ive met and it kinda scares me. I know youve done a lot of videos on it but once you have a big enough gap in between ur last manipulator video and the present could you go deeper into the topic? Anyway have a nice day everyone

So. I have a question. I'm a bit confused. My crush KNOWS I like her. But she made very little indication that she likes me back. So I pretty much tried to remove the option of romance from my mind. Later on, I tell her if she ever needs to get something off her chest, don't hesitate to lay it on me. She replied with a picture of her chest, and said she definitely needed to get this off her chest. I tried flirting back, with only smileys as responses. Wtaf.
I'm hanging out with her tomorrow. And she wants to help me with an unrelated panic attack I've been having for a few weeks.

When I was young I did put up with toxic friends. Especially girls' groups have lots of competition going on under a surface and lots of badmouthing. I remember some of my 'friends' how happy were when something bad happened to me ( for example I failed the university exam, or a man I had crush on didn't like me etc) while they were upset ( I could clearly see this in their eyes) when I was successful in anything. That time I just brushed aside these impressions but now I couldn't put up with it. Now I have only one or two friends and I'm happy about it.

I just recently got out of a friendship with someone who has been horrible to me, I explained why I couldnt continue to talk to her and why she was affecting me negatively. She pretended to take it with grace, but turned around and spewed horrible things about me. Calling me slurs, deadnaming and misgenderinf me, telling lies. She had done this before and said it was because she was in a dark place, I dont know if I should tell her Im sorry for cutting her off because I dont want her to keep saying things and disrespecting me and my friends
reply

Well this just woke me up, probably need to cut ties with some people for mine and their sake until later on. Yes Ive done some not good things (indecisive, they have as well (anger and expectations. Basically im to the point of im flat out being friends because i cant put more energy into something i see isnt working anymore, which yes ive improved but still. TLDR, relationship with friend/ex not going well due to distance and things possibly fizzled out. The shitty part is going to be telling them this -. -

I had a friend that use to isolate me alot and i felt trapped
There were many other things that caused me to distance myself (she said some sort of racist things towards the latino community and I'm part Mexican so that made me uncomfy, she were also very argumentative about everything) i didn't notice she isolated me until after i distanced myself. Take time to look at your relationships (both /r and /p) and notice the red flags

reply

I certainly feel it can hurt more to leave a lifelong friendship than break up with a boyfriend. But these red flags are so spot on, you also gotta let people go that never own up to their mistakes or take accountability. They always think they're right (or that you're wrong, these people who always make it your fault are sooo toxic. Has anyone else had a friendship like this?
reply

Thanks for posting this! I just fell out with a friend who turned more and more towards just using me for help but didn't show up as a friend. Plus, they started to invalidate my personality repeatedly. They were surprised and hurt when I started to withhold info I share only with close friends (aka 'INFJ door slam', and that was the end of it.
reply

Is it red flag in the relationship (friendship specifically) that when my friends talking about something such as gossip that I don't know, I always ask them what are they talking about but they always says that they will talk it later (but never talks it again? I know them for many years.
Sorry for my grammar. English not my first language.

Great video! By the way, I have finished 3 very important friendships in the past 3 years in some extent because of the last point, and the sense of freedom and loyalty to myself made me feel great, I dont regret it at all, I strongly recommend let go people dont treat you with compassion, care and honesty, it always pays back

Mathew 7: 5
First take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
Yes people have problems which we would consider 'red flags' but we all have these, and we can help each other with them instead of running away at each one.

reply

I can relate to at least one of these lets just say my ex used to only talk to me if he needed something like money or if in the future Id give him money I always told him yes thank goodness I left him otherwise I would have never been able to spend my hard earned money on myself
reply

I've been friends with this one girl for like almost 5 years and recently I've been noticing all of the red flags mentioned in this video. Even my childhood friend has had a bad feeling about her so im considering abandoning our friendship gor the better.
reply

Well sorta my bf is #1 but #2 idk about that one. 3rd I dont think he done. that. I dont think he done the flaws thing he does like chubby women. Well my bf did ghosting me for almost 2 months and it was a long distance relationship too.
reply

Hmm, not agreeing on this one. I think some of these red flags are calls for help and that were programmed to give up on long term goals if theyre not perfect. Marriage and therapist/client relationships should never be quickly disposable.
reply

Okay I need advice to tell this girl I dont wanna be friends with out saying I dont really think this works I dont wanna be friends and we were really close and Ive tried to stop the friendship multi times but she keeps dragging me back
reply

This really hit hard. A friend of mine seems to be using me as a mother figure/ therapist. It was going on for 2 years but I finally blocked them. I admit I miss them but I know it's for the best.
reply

Wow! Every single one of these applies to a now (thankfully) estranged friend who I tolerated for 13 years starting in Kindergarten! He was so controlling I had to quit my job and ghost him.
reply

Just recently stop contacting my buddy. I put a lot of effort into our friendship and with very little from his end. Completely one-sided. Maybe he'll realize it someday, but I'm done.
reply

Is it toxic if mi friends always ask me to buy him stuff and never say tanks. But wen i'm asking for something he always says that I can't. (Sorry if mi English is bad I don't speak anglais)
