Don't Ignore Your Emotions. Here's Why

Do you always ignore your emotions? It's very detrimental to your mental health. Here is why and how. Whether you're seeking personal growth or simply curious about the fascinating world of emotions, this video is a must-watch. I agree with the title. Don't ignore your emotions, as you're essentially denying the existence of a normal bodily function.
Instead, when you feel your emotions arise, act differently.
When you feel anger, don't lash out. Sit with that anger, calm yourself down, using ethical methods that would do the trick (meditation, going for a walk, etc.
The principle of stoicism isn't in not feeling your emotions, but rather when you feel them, you do not act on them needlessly and negatively.

i don't really know what point i'm trying to make here, so i guess this is going to be another rant! hopefully not a full on snap this time: I've not got any friends at school, not one. the people i do call my friends bully me and torment me every single day. the closest thing to a friend i have is someone i met online in VR. but i do consider him a close friend. anyways, i don't care about any of that. eventually school will be over and i'll never have to see them again. it doesn't matter to me because i don't let it get to me that much. the thing is that i have a massive, _massive_ pressure put on my shoulders for what i have to live up to become. i cant hardly even describe it. and i'm not talking about getting into the most prestigious school or getting the highest paying job. there's a lot more pressure than something simple like that, and i'm the one who put that pressure there in the first place. i don't know what to do and all of it is starting to get to me and i'm scared that the overload will make me black out, as i call it, at school and kill someone by accident. those tiled floors are more dangerous than you'd think.

My parents had a broken marriage full of ugly fights and the worst instability in hate-love for 6+ years from my childhood early on until they finally somewhat split with moving into different flats.
At the beginning I'd cry and demand them to never split, but as I got older and was forced to mature way too much for a preteen (mostly because of other issues in the family and my life, but also not excluding this) I started just being an empty shell whenever it came to family issues. Or family hadn't felt like one for a long time, so I couldn't express drastic situations as emotionally as my parents would've liked.
They love me, but I know they were worried/weirded out by my unattached way of viewing the family and their split up. At some point I begged them to split up.
So yeah, I'm in therapy now

Now how am i supposed to not keep down and push away my emotions, if most of the time, i don't even know which those are or if there even are any right now.
As a person that has Alexithymia alot of the time i can't even tell what i feel in a situation or if i feel anything in a situation. Sometimes i find myself in situations where i know that i should probably feel at least something right now, but the only thing that i actually feel when i try to listen into my self and find what i should feel right now is emptiness. just Nothing. I just find that no emotion exist that suits as a proper reaction for given situation. (in my case such situations have previously been for example breakups or loss of family members) i know that i should feel something about those things, but i just feel nothing.

I m in a situation where if I do address it, and allow myself to feel what I feel, I m exposed to all the pain and 'unfairness' it gives me, and I cannot disassociate from it as I m not old enough, much less capable of it, and the situation involves the only people that are even conisdered close to me, and it is hard for me to actually have selfish things cause I m just naturally not like that and I ve been doing this for so long that it is now like a endless pit that I pushed the ground together to cover it up, like an immense pothole, and if I try to leak it out slowly, it starts to force itself out as I have been forcing it away for so long that they no longer listen as I ve been doing the 'right thing' for my situation this entire time(this has been going on my entire young life.

Well me as male, my emotions are not valid enough in the real world. Expressing my emotions is better on camera. I am fatherless. Trust issues doesn t seem like a problem to me. I have a lot of passive anger. Better to take it out on something than someone. I would earn someone s sympathy for me & I promise to not bother twice.
My Coping mechanisms, the things I enjoy & the things I ve worked hard for kept me alive while staying calm. Take it away from me, I will be mentally insane. This world is not for me. If I lose people by opening up or not, it s ok. I m taking my losses & accepting my fate. I m only 25 but I don t care.
I ve done emotional eating as a child. I d do it again. I m always that kid doing something else after being frustrated about things I can no longer control.

Personally, my emotions are all over the place, and when stressed, I just emotionally break down, I ll just start crying when I m way to stressed and overwhelmed. I know I ve been mentioning this a lot, but if you haven t seen any of my other comments, I m an HSP and take the emotions of others, this makes it very hard to keep things to my self, but what I ve learned is it helps to hang out with close friends and just vent. Personally I like to sit in a dark room and just express the emotions I feel. I do all of this in the quiet peaceful to my self. It also helps to tell the people you care about how you feel, this can help turn my day from the worst ever to a better day. Just know that whatever you do it s ok to feel emotions.

I may have been ignoring loneliness and Jealousy so much that I didn't even think I was jealous.
but. I guess I would have to be. seeing friends hang out and have fun made me angry and sad before my friends and I started hanging out more with Destiny 2 and Bopl Battle. and seeing couples hang out reminds me of what I spend every waking moment of my life preparing for. and it makes me angry that it's a one-sided effort since I don't have a partner and am not dating anyone.
I just hug my Squishmallows and play video games until it goes away.

I m at a point where even writing this comment feels useless. Nothing seems to be going right and it s been this way sense I was born. My depression wants to kill me but my anxiety is scared of death. The only way I can handle this life is to block it out. I know it s not good but I ve tried everything else and to me crying doesn t do anything, it doesn t change the situation, nor does it make me feel better, it makes me feel worse. So I don t know what to do anymore, I don t even know why I commented haha.

This has been the thing for me. I used to just press the mute button on my emotions for most of my life. As I got older I realized feeling emotions are a good thing, only problem is I feel like I've swung the other way. I've seen what my emotions can do, so I make it a point to feel them, however I feel like I've lost control. Thank you for the tips on management, only issue I have is not going over managing fear. That is probably the biggest emotion I face on a day to day basis.

I just had a sort of attack from hearing about the passing of my friend.
My fingers got go stiff it looked like chicken feet. Or a duckbill.
My feet were cold.
My breathing was super fast.
I thought that was it for me.
Had to work so hard to breath deep.
Raised my legs like they do unconscious guys in jiu jitsu to move the blood to the brain.
I don't know how to control my sadness yet, but that's what triggered it.
In my childhood, it was fear.

I have a lot of anger towards some people in my family as they keep doing everything they can to jeopardize me and my mom while acting innocent about it.
Since confronting them would only further worsen the way the rest of the family sees us (they have everyone manipulated into thinking we're the bad guys) I have a lot of bottled anger and resentment.
Only way I found thus far of dealing with it is exercise. Doesn't release all the anger it but it helps managing it.

Giving yourself time to feel your emotions allows you to also logically process information more efficiently. Some of the most progressive and effective thinking comes from this intersection. You can say that thinking solely with logic or emotion is illogical in nature because you ultimately lose perspective as you go through your thought process. Always think with perspective and not just perception.

One kind of emotional repression that got me completely by supprise was dissociation. I basically at a therapist discovered that because i had gone through over a year of stress i had this bottle of feelings i dident even know existed. It was a scary experience to know that even if you normally listen rather intently to your feelings, stress can make the body hide em from you completely.

I am seeking guidance regarding a prolonged period of emotional suppression. For the past three years, I have neglected addressing my emotions, and this has begun to manifest in physical symptoms like hair loss. While the cause is not the immediate concern, I am now seeking advice on how to manage and relieve the accumulated stress. btw I'm a teenager

My therapist recently told me that I care too much about other people s problems, that it s taking a toll on my mental health and it has built up overtime internally. She told me to start focusing on my own problems and stop worrying about other s problems. She s right I care way too much about other people that I ve been slacking on self care.

My issue is that when I do express my emotions, my views, beliefs, opinions, agreements/disagreements, and try to be myself towards my wife, I end up being in the wrong somehow and my feelings are not valid. I mean I know she loves me and stuff, but I just can't be honest with her on a few sensitive things because I end up wrong in her eyes

Something very personal went through my job, and it was from an outside source. As my father pointed out today, it had to be someone in my circle, but I haven't spoken with anyone like that, so it's my actual household, which meant my 4 kids or the other three people in the house and two of them shouldn't even know the personal information.
