I honestly really dislike touching. Granted I have autism and schizoaffective disorder, however I used to love hugging and giving hugs but I don’t know what happened, now I really just don’t want others to touch me and it feels like a chore to do. Being taken by the hand makes me feel unsafe and that someone is dragging me somewhere, I don’t really like being pat on the back because that scares me too. Again I used to like hugs but somewhere along the way they started to feel suffocating and I can’t get past not wanting to smell people’s breath and fragrances. I’ll sometimes want a hug from my mom or dad but when I get it I just feel so empty most of the time, like it sometimes makes my mood worse expecting my brain to be comforted when it’s now just makes it worse most of the time. I’ve come to find the only real touch I enjoy if I know you is being pat or rubbed on top of my head gently or on my shoulder lightly. I had been crying earlier today with my mom and she rubbed the top of my head and it was the first time in a long time I felt relief and comfort at touch. I don’t know why, I feel very confused with who I’ve become as an adult

When was the last time I felt the true power of touch Uhhhhh about a month ago I only have 1 friend who gives me hugs, and it still doesn’t happen very often, because I’m attracted to her and it makes me feel awkward approaching her about physical contact because I don’t want her to feel uncomfortable. I’m not very good with social norms. I have zero other friends who actually give me hugs, gentle taps, or hold my hand. This is why being a guy can be hard; the people who just assume that I accept them as acquaintances (and just think that I like doing the average things that teenage males like to do) are usually boys, and they’re rougher and more wild than I am. My personality is more gentle and less crazy. And sometimes I really need touch. I was going to ask if crushing on someone and touch have a connection, but realized that she’s the only person who gently touches me. I mean, my parents do on occasion, but it doesn’t feel the same. I would love to feel gentle touch more often
Also, can you make a video on social norms That would be very helpful for me when it comes to crushing on people.

This is especially true for me because physical touch is one of my 3 love languages. If you’re a good friend of mine, and i care very deeply for you, I’ll probably hug you at least once when I see you (unless they decline of course. And I can’t even begin to describe the happiness that I experience whenever one of those friends hug me. I feel like a child on Christmas Eve. Hugs are one of the greatest things for me, both to give and to receive. For me, hugs are my way of showing you that I really do care, aside from me constantly saying I love you or complimenting you (words of affirmation is another of my love languages. When I care about someone and view them as a friend, you will see and hear me express it as much as I can. There have been times where I’ve said I love you to my best friend multiple times in the same conversation.

Ok, I hate touch. I have extra sensitive senses that make something as simple as wearing a button down shirt or receiving a hug feel wrong and make me anxious. This of course goes for my other senses, but I want to focus on touch right now. I don’t enjoy hugs or handshakes or that hand on your shoulder, I just don’t like it. I can go days without any human contact, and I have when I was suffering (I had depression 3 years ago but I’m ok now) and isolated myself from the entire world. Really I just had two questions that I was wondering if someone could answer or maybe you guys could make a video about one:
Why don’t I look touch or get touch starved as easily
2. How do sensitive senses work and affect a person

1. It begins at birth. Babies who recieve consistent touch grow up with better emotional and stress regulation, stronger immune systems and more developed sense of the world.
2. Four hugs a day keep the doctor away. Activates your parasympathetic nervous system. Lowers heart rate, reduces blood pressure and calms your mind. Four hugs a day can lower cortisol, the stress hormone.
3. Natural ibuprofen: Holding hands releases endorphins, lowers anxiety.
4. Touching hearts: Oxytocin, the cuddle hormone gets released after touch.
5. Skin deep: Skin has specialized nerve fibers called C tactile afferent that are hardwired to respond to gentle strokes.
The art looks so cute and thanks for the information!

Oh 100% have seen this in action. The fastest way to get my husband to calm down about anything is cuddles, and skin to skin contact works faster for sure. But I've also found that you have to let it work on you. It's comforting for me sometimes, but if my brain is too busy thinking about everything while I'm getting snuggles it doesn't do anything to calm me down. If I can remind myself that I'm safe and everything is fine and just to live in that moment, only then the touch effects seem to work. Otherwise it's some dude in my way slowing me down when I wanna pace or start working on solutions. So for people who don't like being touched or held I can understand this being an impossible need to fill.

lol I wouldn’t know, I’ve been so isolated that I have accepted it’s just a chronic condition now lmao. and the last time I got a hug, I felt absolutely nothing, so I guess those receptors are dead now lmao.
Tried to adopt a cat to get that sweet oxytocin. I got attached after about a month, and a month later he had to be euthanized after getting dry FIP. Blindness, bleeding eyes, loss control of his back legs over the course of a week it was awful! so back to isolation

Well I don't even Hug my Mom. we always has been like this kind of relationship, now I'm used to this and I don't care anymore, and this is who I'm now, staying in my zone, have few friends but it doesn't mean I lack anywhere in life, have great acedemic and sports records, .so it's not always true that you are falling behind just coz your parents and busy building a great life for you.

As a child I didn't get much touch at all and now being 60 yrs old and no family left and not ever married I'm TOTALLY feeling touch starved and now what do I do
Is my life going to be ending out in NEVER knowing what a touch is all about and ever benefitting from ever getting hugs of just a simple touch on the back
This is a sad state of affairs.

Does physical touch have to be skin to skin A lot of hugs aren’t skin to skin so are we getting the full be benefits I’m not asking in a perverted way lmao I’m genuinely curious because the video mentioned the effects of skin to skin like hand holding. When you’re hugging, it’s not often actual physical touch it’s just a squeezing sensation.

Ha! My spouse sat on the couch whilst I was in labor - conversing w my DAD. When I said to them both: ' You two need to be quieter, I need some sleep. I got told You can't sleep while in labor. I said: Watch me. My labor lasted 30 hours. 4am Sun to 1015 am Mon. Soooo, this partner helping me, holding my hand stuff, even while in labor. is a myth to me.

Thank you so much, as usual psych2go always has what I need and just when I need it, it's almost uncanny how good the timing and subject is. Anyway, it's been a hot second since I've actually gotten enough physical touch so thank you for pointing it out, I love hearing more about psychology, so thanks again for these past 5 years!

That part about kids who get frequent touch tend to grow better skills and regulation hurt. My parents used to withhold affection and completely cold shoulder me when I was a kid whenever I did something that upset them (which was very easy to do, even completely unintentionally) no wonder I barely have any self regulation abilities

No idea. When you are as ugly as me, people think you can catch ugly and try not to touch you. Combined with my skin being incredibly sensitive to the point i will react/flinch when someone does touch me.
That said I don't necessarily have most of those symptoms. Just a deep sense of loneliness that will be there always.

The last time I actually got a hug or my hand held or things like that was a couple weeks ago when I visited my friend in a different state. That had been the first time in months. I only even get that when she comes down to visit. The closest I get normally is with my cats, but only one of them actually likes to cuddle with me

My last beautiful touch was back in 2018. The only love I really felt. Childhood Aww hell naw, my mother beat me like a rug hung outside to dry every single day like clockwork. No other human has ever touched me again. I'm unlovable, unattractive, homeless, and worthless. It's ok tho. I'm used to being left alone.

The only touch iv'e ever been able to do for over 14 years are hand shakes that are minimal. Before that I had given my mom a hug, still not so much aside a hug from mom once in a blue moon. I am touch starved. It is a feeling that I do not revive. I am not loved, I do not receive affection either.

For some reason I love hugs but I hate any other sort of physical touch. Like I looovee hugs. Anything else, nope. Others want to cuddle or put their hand on my shoulder or back but that just makes me cringe. But I looovee quality time
