Why Nobody Wants This Part of Africa obviously, halaib belongs to egypt. sudan didnt even exist as a country until the egyptians willfully gave them independence. the sudanese people had very little leverage to argue the border in their favor, so they just took egypts offer at face value. its not like they fought a war to force egypt to concede more land. the border between egypt and sudan was obviously decided by the egyptian government, the entity that controlled both territories at the time. both the 1899 line and the1902 line were pretty arbitrarily imposed by a foreign imperial power. the simple fact that the local and independent government of egypt endorsed the 1899 line makes it the slightly more legitimate of the two. egypt was extremely accommodating to allow sudanese officials in halaib as recently as 1996, as a show of good will. but sudan proved that they dont deserve that good will when they tried to attack the egyptian president. i dont know what they think theyre doing, picking a needless fight with a much more powerful country. sudan is too weak even to hold onto its own land. south sudan successfully broke away from the country recently, and darfur may break away as well if conflict continues in the area

I'm wondering why were the lines even redrawn if NOBODY lived in Bir Tawil. I thought the whole reason for redrawing the lines because of the culture of the people living there and the culture of the triangle. If no one lived there, then what was the point of redrawing the lines for cultural reasons. This doesnt make any sense to me.

If you ever encounter any doubt, however small that doubt may be, about who-s to blame just remember- it-s ALWAYS the British ---
If weren-t so self assured about my intrinsic superiority as an Englishman I may be tempted to feel guilty and head out to throw a statue in a river --

So basically despite neither wanting Bir Tawil it is still linked to the ongoing territory dispute. So any other country or person trying to make a serious claim on the land amd settle there is unlikely to be looked at too kindly by either Egypt or Sudan
reply

I say old man. Should we think about this carefully and plot out borders that make sense or should we just draw the lines willy Nilly and hope it doesn't cause us tons of future problems
Who cares about future problems? Draw them Willy nilly

you are missing the biggest point. if you don't get the agreement of multiple states you'll have no state. a state only exist for another state if they agreed to it and see you as valid at some point.

I guess I shall claim it! (Mind you, I have never sat foot here, I have no army, no arsenal of mass destruction, and lack of knowledge of the area) Call me Daenerys Stormborn!

Why is no one suggesting names? Okay, here we go:

Alright like this comment if you think I should go and make a claim to Bir Tawil. And leave a comment if you'd like to challenge me with your own claim, I dare you!

The Hala-ib Triangle should just be Spit in half, so that both Egypt and Sudan can have it. And the useless land that neither of them want should be spit too.

Dont wanna be that guy, but we've found older human remains in europe. We now know humanity didnt originate from Afrika. Might be good to update the video

People should stop trying to claim land, period! SMH and HELL NO, it wouldn-t be cool if that person who calls himself beast -claimed- it!
reply

ill go there to claim bir tawil for sudan cause it makes more sense for them to have that but idk who should get hala ib traiangle
reply

When the map zoomed into bir tawil, I was far more distracted by the small is Sudan jetting off Into Egypt to the left.

As a Sudanese myself who traveled in the desert 3 month ago. I advise you against claiming it. It's too too too hot
reply

For once, the british tried to make a proper border that took into consideration the locals but still messed up

A deserted desert in the middle of nowhere. Well, better than notting, beautiful place to establish a new country.

The Option B makes more sense, but in the end it's about who's stronger if we wanna be honest with ourselves.
reply

technically you could kill someone here and not get introuble since no one claims it, and there are no laws
