I am a Native and every time I watch this, it makes me cry. However, if someone was to go from Rez to Rez and see how we all live, they would see that Pine Ridge is a product of it's people. I lived in Upper-State New York where it is mostly Mohawks so I know most of our agreements with the government, I'm not very familiar with the one's the Lakota's made but we are a very prosperous community, we have our struggles just like everyone else but our community looks nothing like Pine Ridge. I understand there is a huge difference in the geography of my communities and the Pine Ridge reservation but even so, there are so many things that can be done to make it livable. I'm not sure how much the community gets from the government to fund it's essentials, maybe the council is misusing the money? We are not all hoodlums looking for trouble, we all want to live and breath the same as everyone else, we just want to be able to live and breath the way were taught to do it. Why is that always so much to ask?

Ya, they are told from birth, as I was that being white makes everything you do correct and here in the US, where in you have access to more information than you could ever comprehend there are hundreds of millions who never bother to look at history or facts. Now if they actually studied and became more knowledgeable then maybe they would know the difference between shit and shineola, but they don't. And there are many who actually think that the more they consume the more correct they are

This is what the white ones did to so many traditional peoples all over earth. Asia, Africa and America, everywhere! And up to now their skin color is superior to all others. People of Lakota, pick yourselves up, dust off and start. Start school. It doesn't have to be what the Americans teach. Educate yourselves, clean up, treat the wounds. You will heal. Above all, read the Word of God. It is by this Word that all was taken from you, by it you will have everything back. But first, get up!

First off, neither the UN nor the ICC can compel the US to pay anybody. Secondly, even if the US did pay some reparations, those funds would be finite, meaning the new Lakota Nation would still have to find someway to feed, clothe, protect, and provide medical services for their people. The only point I wanted to make was giving the land back is not a viable solution. Instead of giving a fifteen minute TED talk about the atrocities, maybe he could propose a meaningful and detailed solution.

Mr. Huey, hypothetically speaking, if the US Government did acquiesce to your TED wish, and gave back the Black Hills, what would that look like? Does that mean that a sovereign nation would exist within the continental United States? Would they then have to have a passport to enter the United States? Could the United States cut the aid to the Lakota Tribe? How would they import goods they needed without access to sea lanes? I don't think you are offering any real solution here.

That doesn't make any sense. The French colony have gone trough this and we assumed our responsibility! We worked to be people in this society! Them: they don't want to be part of this world! They want to run naked in wilderness. But they want Nintendo, HD TV, Computers, cars, guns, horses (Horse come from colonization, medications, internet, houses, etc. They want all the good stuff that we have, but don't want to work for it! Don't want to be part of society!

If they become a sovereign nation, then how will they gain access to medical care, energy, and imported goods? You have to realize, that once they are an independent nation, the federal subsidies will cease. Then how will they generate electricity? Where will the funding come from to give them leverage in international trade? How will they even gain access to international trade without a shipping lane? If they were given sovereignty how would their lives improve?

So, if they got the Black Hills back, they would stop all their self-destructive behavior and go to school and live longer? Why are they waiting for someone to give them something? I don't own any land or anything but I could never live like that. Something happened 150 years ago so they don't clean their houses or go to school? I don't see the reason for living like this to be outside their control or environment. Why live like this?

As a sovereign nation, it would have access to the UN and the international court of human rights. The contracts are valid, the US violated and poached the riches of the land, and so with the precedent of the former African Colonies, it would become one of the richest countries on earth per capita, for the simple reason that the US killed of so many of them. (they are dead, but the descendents still have claim for every single one)
