When Henry Molaison (now widely known as H. M) cracked his skull in an accident, he began blacking out and having seizures. In an attempt to cure him, daredevil surgeon Dr. William Skoville removed H. M. 's hippocampus. Luckily, the seizures did go away but so did his long-term memory! Sam Kean walks us through this astonishing medical case, detailing everything H. M. taught us about the brain and memory. Lesson by Sam Kean

Wouldnt it have been obvious that he didnt forget how to do things? Take for example learning how to use a bycicle. I may forget the day when I did it but i will never forget how to do it ( My body would remember it for me )
Like, he stood up and walked after the surgery, right? He may have forgotten the day he learned to walk but his body didnt.

This is an example of pseudo-scientific approach in a term of sacrificing human for a doubtful reason. Normally adequate scientific test like experiment on themselves. Oh, sorry couldnt remove a memory of himself. Despite obviously should.

I understand the importance of medical cases and studies and experimentation. But it's really morbid to me. And a little nauseating. Good job to the doctors and scientists that carry these out. Lord knows i can't

basically living organism work as the computer does, needs a ram for short term storage and needs a hard drive for long term storage and we do have processors thats ourt neural networks processing information
reply

It's like having the RAM in a computer removed and only using the hard drive to store information. Once the PC is off, the info is lost with no easy way to retrieve it from the hard drive.

We are all born to be used by society in one way or another, even if the meaning of your life seems to be more than that at the end of the day youre either using or being used by society

4: 45 'Upon his death his brain was preserved and scanned before being cut into over 2000 individual slices - but yet we saw chunks. Way to go Ted-Ed.
