Very superficial presentation of the path chosen for use of nuclear power. TED would be of better service if they would explain that over a dozen reactors were designed around the time of the light water reactors that are most prevalent. The reality that the worst reactor design was chosen for commercial electrical generation was chosen. The design was only optimized for marine applications in an abundant cold water environment, sized to never exceed the limits of the materials used to make them. The man whose name is on their patents stated the ideal design was the molten salt reactor was perfectly suited for commercial power generation. Inherently safe by design, self regulating and meltdown secure, proven by four years of safe operation. Sad to say our politicians are the only reason they are the main engine of our power industry today. Capable of multiple fuel designs, proliferation risk safe, modular in design, safer grid designs and production distribution, even capable of using spent fuel currently stored as fuel to a virtual 95% burn up. These MSR reactors will solve power supply to bring third world countries to first world standards, eliminate nuclear proliferation issues, power grid security and distribution, reduce production costs and expedite construction time and safety. We need everyone to contact people in places of influence to allow the current nuclear regulatory and political positions to more aggressively expedite this proven power production process to replace the dangerous LWR plants all on the verge of their lifespans. Only coal plants planned as replacements, will not help climate change opinions. Only major funding presently going to new pellet designs to bridge lwr lifespans and keep fuel manufacturers in the nuclear regulatory control seat. We need msr nuclear power. Safer, modular, scalable, non proliferation, safer fuel cycles, reduced need of new uranium mining, improved grid safety, makes nuclear power for electricity and many other heat of production needs such as desalination, fertilizer production, cement migrant and dozens of other beneficial products and services.

Luckily a new way of disposing of nuclear waste is showing a lot of promise, look up chirped pulse nuclear waste for more info but the idea is to blast nuclear waste with lasers to denature it rendering it safer for the environment.

This was awful. Just one example of your failings here, the suggesting Chernobyl was the result of a containment building failure is wrong. There was no containment building for the Chernobyl reactors.

So you are worried about spent nuclear fuel being stolen, but not ready to use nuclear bombs, of which there are thousands all around the world? Seems biased, idk tho.

Imagine you're a worker in the storage facility of a nuclear plant and you go down and find two random guys mining at your nuclear waste.
