The European Space Agency is hoping to establish an inhabited research base on the moon by the 2020s. But living in this moon camp wont be easy. How will humans deal with the cosmic radiation? What will the inhabitants eat? And what's the point, anyway? Alex Gendler details the challenges and benefits of building a lunar colony. Lesson by Alex Gendler

I'm still super concerned with how many people have been talking about the mining and economic potential of the moon. We already agreed that extra-terrestrial resources shouldn't be able to be owned. Plus, like, isn't it amazing that the moon we see at night, is the same that every poet in history has seen? Every animal that ever lived, looked at the same moon. Do you really want to capitalize it? Carve the Golden Arches in it? If our economy collapsed and we can't get back to the moon, it could stay that way for the rest of time.

As long as republicunts control Washington, I doubt the US will be any help in this. Dump Trumpet cut their budget by over 500 million, causing programs to be cut and a launch to already be cancelled. I wouldn't count on the United States for any scientific endeavors in the near future.
edit: grammar.

So. Mining resources like aluminium, silicon and magnesium to further economic development in exchange of losing our greatest protection against asteroids impacting Earth certainly sounds as a brilliant idea!

Weird that we want to find new habitable planet, while destroying the earth. Come on, let's just to research to moon, not to sleep and live there.

Me: Hears that they are saying thata moon base will be done by 2020

Its sad that they planned to do it in 2020 but it seems they have bigger problems now. They cant even camp in their own city!
