Pods of killer whales inhabit the waters of every major ocean on Earth. Each family is able to survive thanks mainly to one member, its most knowledgeable hunter: the grandmother. These matriarchs can live 80 years or more and their expertise can mean the difference between life and death for their families. Darren Croft details the lives of killer whales and the dangers facing their survival. Lesson by Darren Croft, directed by Boniato Studio

I just need to make one thing clear: killer whales are NOT whales. They are orcas, the largest species of dolphin and the apex predator. They get the name killer whale from the food they eat which includes whales. Their scientific name is Orcinus orca.

Orcas are the apex predators of the sea. Even white sharks can't defeat them. Their families are matriarch guided. It's an outrage that they endangered because theirmain food habitat's has been destroyed. Thanks for this amazing animation

They should not be in captivity, dolphins either, we stopped putting wild animals in the circus, Seaworld et al are different. They arent happy, we have to put their welfare ahead of capitalism #emptythetanks. Also; cool video.

Last I checked, Orca's were considered part of the dolphin family, not the whale family. The name killer whale was a misnomer through translation. They are technically whale killers, since they feed on whales from time to time.

Search seaworld of hurt it will make u cry they capture baby orcas and put them on a aquaruime and they give u less food when ur tricks are wrong and they kill baby orcas mom or dad
reply

orcas have their own family language, a dialect in common with nearby groups, distinct way of life depending on where they live. I think it's safe to say they're basically sea people

Sure would be nice to hear about this from a grandma voice -- what's up with the young man voice? This research came from a female researcher. So sad at male voice.
reply

With the state of the Canadian government (Trudeau appointed his college buddy as the head of fisheries, the Salmon and Orca will die.

Fathers dont like to pay for child support so they return to their origin family after having some lovey dovey time with some chick.
reply

what happens when the matriac dies? do each female split and become their own matriac? or is there like a next in line matriac
