You and your brother have discovered another realm and set off exploring the new wonderful world. Along the way, you see a troll catching creatures in an enormous net. The troll agrees to release the creatures if you can come up with a statement that is both truth and false. Can you come up with the correct sentence and force the troll to release them? Dan Finkel shows how. Lesson by Dan Finkel, directed by Artrake Studio

The answer to the treasure riddle is to simply say the false treasure chest has poisonous gas. If the false treasure chest has poisonous gas in it then you are telling the truth and the truth treasure will open instead which will contain gold. If the false treasure doesnt have poisonous gas then you said something false and the false chest will open with gold inside.

You could also say You will NOT free the creatures. to the troll. If the statement is true, the troll would have to release the creatures, which he can't do without making the statement paradoxically true and false. The troll's only option is for the statement to be false, forcing it to release the creatures and your brother.
reply

they only said the statement had to be a single sentence, but couldn't you just say you are a troll and your skin is pink or something to that end? the troll bit is true and the pink bit is false, but both are separate statements contained within the same sentence.
reply

Could you not also use a statement with a veracity dependent on the moment? Such as you have the paradoxical creatures. Since it's true, he would have to release the creatures which would then make the statement false fprcing the ogre to also release the brother.
reply

This is the answer to the bonus riddle My statement is true if a true statement will make the chest with the treasure open
If true the treasure is in the true chest
If false the treasure is in the false chest

reply

Heh, the bonus one is easier than the first. You have two options that result in a win.
Option A: The true chest has the gold.
Option B: The false chest has the gas.
