She did what was right and fought against the problems of her time.
Some of the people in the comments seem to have trouble grasping that the 1600s weren't the same as the 2000s are. Women are the majority in higher education now. The cultural forces that want to prevent you from pursuing an education or career have been driven to the absolute fringes thanks to women like this. It's a great time to be alive (at least in the west, so enjoy it!

Also note: The reason you haven't heard of her probably has to do with the fact that she's Spanish. Non-English great minds often have a tough time getting recognition in the English-speaking world. (Especially with poetry, since poems often are hard to translate and keep the original depth)

Man, this makes me hate my gender even more! Women, you must be Amazons! If men are afraid of strong powerful women, PERFECT & EXACTLY THE POINT! Men are SUPPOSED to be afraid of strong powerful women. So become strong & powerful, ladies, & WE men won't oppress & control you anymore!

I wonder what would've happened if she went to school? would she of been bullied? would she have learnt less with others? and also, would she have lived longer?

today, women have all the rights but men are still expected to hide their feelings and devote more time to work rather than their family
