Paying workers the equivalent of 10/day, withholding paychecks and passports from workers that want to quit, sounds typical of the wealthy mofo s of the world. But they don t think twice of spending ridiculous amounts on fancy cars, multiple homes, and multiple multimillion dollar yachts. Their lack of the spirit of generosity is appalling. You can t take it with you and casket space is limited.

BUET(Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology) was the first engineering school where FR Khan studied. I graduated in Architecture from same school. What a shame that there is not a single building named after him in BUET.
Thanks for mentioning Bangladeshi Labours who worked to make this building. This is a modern day pyramid. I wish the arabs run out of oil some day.

This video omits one big drawback of very tall buildings i. e. the enormous energy required to keep these buildings functioning. These include energy to pump water for indoor plumbing, gas for heating / cooking and elevators for the transport of people. And god forbid if these buildings are centrally air conditioned which most of them are, then the energy in cooling and ventilation.

Louis CK said something like this. every incredible human achievement in history, was done with slaves. They just threw human death and suffering at something until it was finished. Of course, he s a comedian and I don t agree with him, well not entirely, but I don t think this building could ve been affordable if not for the way it was built.

Company I work for at the time USG supplied the sheet rock, and studs for the building. Watched video were they used a plumb Bob in order to keep the building center onto itself. Had me chuckling. The amount of money tossed into the project and it took 20 worth of string to keep billions of dollars in line.

Its actually now not the 1st place! My father was there and they told him that they are planning to make it higher because of that!
He can't remember the name of the building, he thinks its in singapore. and also i think its that new that google doesn't now either.

As i was watching the video i was hoping they would mention the legendary Bangladeshi-American engineer Fazlur Rahman Khan and his contribution to the structural engineering. The moment narrator said his name i felt proud as a fellow Bangladeshi. Thanks Ted-Ed.

Still today construction workers have shifts of 10 hours and even more in Europe. Germany, France, Austria, Croatia, Slovenia - all EU members. I know because im one of them. There is no law to protect us

As a civil engineer, thanks for giving credit to major importance of engineering design and not just trying to lump the structural analysis with the architect (the aesthetics captain of the building)

As an architecture and skyscraper lover, thank you Ted-Ed for making this. The fact that I've heard this man's narration voice for so many years from when I was in middle school to college now is insane!
