You would be out on the road, and up on the side of the road, and you would see a huge wind farm. There's a large turbine project about 45 minutes north of me, with huge new powerlines and support poles running along the highways and much further into the forest where I can't see, and when I drive by all the turbines turning at different rates, it reminds me of some sort of extra-planetary resource development or harvest. I then laugh to myself that apparently all turbines fail within a few decades (I'd imagine they'd get squeaky, and because apparently they still rely on oil to grease the moving parts. I wonder if the project will succeed or fail, because it's a government investment. I then think to myself, It doesn't matter if it succeeds or fails. What matters is the human spirit to innovate and to explore new ideas and to wake up each day trying to do better than the day before. It matters less that the deforestation from those new powerlines completely decimated the area around the lake that I used to fish in as a kid, if you look at it from the 'human quest to improve upon ideas' perspective; still, I think the least amount of moving parts is best technology (solar.

Wind energy is great, but your statement that Wind is a Free and unlimited source of energy is false, due to the conservation of energy. We have to be careful how much energy we remove from wind, because it's also the source of energy that moves the weather and can drastically change weather patterns. Rain storms that would normally have traveled much further, may get stuck due to lack of energy causing areas to experience flooding and others to experience drought. If way too much energy is removed, then our entire climate can change, which is also bad. It's up to scientists to find the best balance.

What happens after a wind turbine is used for 20 years? Is it possible to replace or even to repair parts, or is the structure of the turbine damaged after such a long time so it has to be dismantled?

Design control strategy for wind energy system is always a proplem to me. There are a lot of things we have to discuss: Power electronics, electric machines (DFIG, PMSM) as well as electric drives

Windmills aren't exactly eco friendly. The blades survive 10 to 20 years and then end up in landfill. They aren't biodegradable bcoz of their material. This problem can be solved though.

I like how that cost of energy comparison somehow omits hydro power. And what improvements in power storage? There aren't any. Not scalable improvements anyway. Into the bin it goes!
