I love the wort cure with the eel head. I am not sure how it got changed to a potatoe, but onnthe Irish side of my family, their is an old remedy that was past down through the generations. I was told it came over with my family to the US from Ireland and they came over between 1850 and 1880. What you are suposed to do is take a potatoe peel, rub it on the wort, then burry it in the backyard or garden as you Brit's call it, and when decomposes the wort is suposed to fall off. I have know idea if this works or not but I was told it as a child from my grandmother. she as tsught buy her Grandmother (she loced 1925-2018, and her Great Grandparents made the crossing in the 1850's (I don't see how it could work honestly. but now i see ths origins of it. its cazy to me that this was passed down all the way to the 21st century though. :)

I haven't had a toilet break so its gotten pretty hot and sweaty and smelly Oh. oh dear. I see what you mean there.
The back and fourth between Tony and the doctor is one of the funniest on the show. The pacing is comedic genius lol. Tony's slow wait. is this? followed by the doctors enthusiastic and frank absolutely. He's just so happy to be showing off the tools and practices
That human powered crane is cool! I'd love to meet the person who designed that
leech therapy gets a bad rap, but deliberate removal of blood is still practiced today. Leeches might even be safer in terms of physical damage to the body, if you could make sure theyre clean. But also try eating natto instead of bloodletting, there are situations where it can help and it cant really hurt

Taken from a nutrition article:
_There are plenty of nutrients to write about. Earthworms are a wriggling superfood. They're high in protein and_
_have high levels of iron and of amino acids, which help break down food and repair body tissue. They also contain_
_copper, manganese and zinc. _
In other words, everyone probably would have been a lot healthier if they just went to see the local wise woman, rather than the barber.

So some reading indicates to me that by the middle ages, fulling by hand, or rather by foot, was starting to die out. They were starting to use mills instead, which would turn and move these big wooden hammer-type things that pounded the wool. Still poured pee all over it, cause that's the only fabric softener they had, but at least they didn't need to touch it anymore.

30: 00 they really ham up the whole lime making lime. Ive done alot of concrete, stone work, used old lime. Sure it burns a lil bit if you dont wipe it off, but ive spread it with bare hands, Ive mixed it with my hands its not very dangerous and sure wont kill you like the bearded man thinks. Its really not a big deal, but they gotta sell it to make the doc i suppose.

It's not just medieval people who covered themselves with bloodsucking leeches. This is still common practice in Germany. I still have a spot on my leg from 14 years ago that still bleeds from having one applied to a bone bruise to reduce swelling.

I love these documentaries from tony but I really dont think it was necessary to kill that eel. That was pretty awful that poor animal was thrashing because it was being killed people need to think how they would feel if that happened to them

They still use leeches, but now they're grown in a lab because using the ones from the wild, could spread disease, especially because the way they was caught. I'm sure since I typed all this out, you're going to say it too, lol! All well!

Imagine making a documentary and taking the time to document everything really well then giving all your work to an editor who makes a video drowning out your voice with absolute garbage music.

The rain gear and umbrella industry in England must be the biggest in the world, does it ever stop raining? It looks like a beautiful country but damn all the rain.

Filming the killing and the agony of an animal that is dying is awful.
I don't know how they did it,
how they don't feel the cruelty in this

Thank god the music is so loud. Otherwise I could actually hear the documentary.
Seriously, why is it like that in most British docimentaries?

It's great to see Timeline paying homage to Tony Robinsons past career by getting Baldrick to be a sound engineer for every episode.

Pretty sure cutting the head off an eel but leaving it alive for several minutes is very much criminal animal abuse in the UK.
