Thank you Canada, Australia, NZ, South Africa, India and other nations for coming to the aid of the UK in WW1 and 2, the 17 pounder was the supreme Allied Tank killer weapon from 1942 TO 1948 capable of destroying Tigers and Panthers and from 8/1944 with discarding sabot or shoe penetrating 10. 5 of armour, it was replaced by the 20 pounder 84mm with a slightly better performance this gun was replaced by the 105mm tank gun which was the worlds best tank killer till replaced by the 120mm L11A1 which still today holds the world record in destroying a battle tank at 2. 1 miles.

Terrible tactics, why didn't they go around the strong points? Why drive tanks down an alley flanked by forests, only an idiot would order his men to do that. And where was the infantry support? Tanks are useless without infantry support. The Germans too needed a dozen or so fighters to keep the allied planes at bay with a few tank busters of their own. At that stage of the war the Germans still had 2000 front line fighter planes and they should have been clomped in groups to attack areas of worst threat to them.

Seems as though the Canadians led the British army in Italy, France and Germany. The Australians led the British army in the pacific and India troops in Burma. Aussies, India and South Africa in North Africa Guess the British were mainly in the ROYAL navy and RAF.

Where was the artillery or air cover? Smoke?
I'm no battlefield commander but surely you'd attempt to soften up known defensive lines in forests, towns etc. Seems like such a waste of men and material, sending them against dug in positions like that.

The Shermans 75mm tank gun was originally the French M1897 Field Gun with a muzzle velocity of only 529M per second as compared with the 88mm's 819 mps but the notoriously conservative US Board of Ordenance stuck with it which cost more tank crew lives.

A. 303 riffle bullet has a muzzle velocity of around 2, 600 feet per second, the same as a German 88mm shell. . I don't think you would see a bullet coming at you, so how did that old fella at 15: 31 see an oncoming round from a Flak gun?

Why can't the Allies invade Germany? All of a sudden the Germans forgot they crossed others' borders without a passport and an immigration check on whether they didn't come in great numbers and along with contraband firearms?

Like so many modern productions, the sound effects (do we really need a pop-up noise for everything) and ADHD shifting of visuals totally gets in the way of trying to hear a story. Wanted to learn about this battle, but gave up.

I don't know all the details of that battle, but it seems that the German positions were well known so Instead of sending armour units right of the bat I would have had air raids and artillery softening up the defences.

Jabo's the bain have read where those rockets equaled 8 inch naval guns. Any way you stretch it those battles tried men and the ones lucky enough to walk away from it in the end made us all better. Salute.

Thank you, my dad served with 4th canadian armored division, never talked much about his experience but I mentioned I wanted to sign up and he was adamant that he served enough for the both of us.

Weird logic the enemy bombers bombed my city, let's keep the fight up, instead of surrendering, because Germany had obviously lost by the end of 1944. Yet they prolonged everybody's suffering.
