Against my better judgement I persisted with this 3 part documentary series only because Im a military historian and film maker. This is a classic example of a potentially interesting story that could easily be told in 70 to 90 minutes, not nearly 3 hours. Apart from the mildly visually irritating jump zooms etc. there is that format of most images being shown in a smaller screen frame.
The filler information is the most irritating of all. Frankly, I dont care about the climate, population, governments, etc. of places irrelevant to the main story; like some town in Germany Ive never heard of and promptly forgot seconds after seeing it.
In episode one we are 35 minutes into this 55 minute film before the alleged subject of the series is mentioned in any detail at all. Theres a cute little animation of two submarines colliding at the start but then nothing. A huge amount of time was spent on some 15th or 16th Century wooden sailing ship that sank on its maiden voyage. Nice little story but totally irrelevant to this series.
Did we really need to see the film makers moving their gear in and out of vehicles and talking about cameras etc? Filling the divers air tanks really? Nobody needs to know that apart from the divers.
This shows you how desperate these people were for content to fill this long, long screen time.
Then there was the piece on the sinking of the German cruise ship the Wilhelm Gustloff. A man spoke of this well known and largest maritime loss of life in history, like no one had ever heard of it. Again, nothing to do with the so-called subject of the series. Oddly, there was the little old U-Boat sailor who told the film makers, in a typical German fashion, that they will not dive inside the submarine as it is a war grave. Little knowing that thats about all these folks do for a living. If the 9000+ dead on-board the Gustloff does not make that vessel a war grave then I dont know what is a war grave.
These people needed several, perhaps many more shorter documentaries under their belts before tackling a 3-hour series like this. Above all, apart from the expert divers, they need an expert content editor to cut out all the dross. And what did they find out about the subject submarines, well, I wont spoil it for you if you seriously want to waste 3 hours of your life. Cheers, BH

How many millions of Pounds or fiat currency Dollars or whatever currency are spent on finding the ships that were sunk or lost during WW I and WW II? The money spent is then the penalty for war that continues to be imposed. It would be better if the money spent were applied to infrastructure, roads, sewers, water distribution, bridges, dams, solar collection and wind power farms.

50K wrecks in the Baltic Sea, one at a time. Hunt for U-479 Episode 37 may get to U-479 after 37 hours of wandering Europe's more incredible history.
In the final episode the team make the journey to the Finnish archipelago to hear the story of the world's only intact treasure ship, the Vrouw Maria. . Uh, OK, they never get to U-479.

It's like watching something get hit by a train you know you should stop watching but you just can't something deep down (no pun intended) says keep watching let's see how terrible it can get how long can you maintain this level of awful, terrible, horrific mind numbing boring monotone rubbish. No I still cant find the words

Struggled through all 3 parts of this vapid documentary. Other than MAYBE 10 minutes in part 1, this has been nothing more than a couple's summer holiday.
All the Baltic country history is somewhat interesting, but I invested 2 1/2 hours only to debunk a single fabricated report from WW2.

Isn't it nice that someone provides for an artistic secondary school to make a documentary about a hunt that doesn't find anything, and rambles on about which guest house people stayed, and which dock they tied up their boat. Totally amateurish, totally pointless, totally a waste of time.

Here in New York State we could not agree on what was just a rock and what was an island either because of our Thousand Islands in the St. Lawrence. Finally it was agreed that if a tree grew on it and a person could stand on it without falling in is counts as an island and not just a rock.

I thought that this doc was about the 2 submarines which collided, then they mentioned about the treasure boat, and I thought that this would be interesting too. Wrong! This video was mainly about divers and cameramen/woman talking about stuff and eating. To cut it short, it was boring!
reply

This video is really about a bunch of divers moving things around the apartment, then a boat, then a walk, and back off of the boat. They never do search for the sub in the title. For a HIGHLIGHT they do show a cartoon of two submarines bumping into each other.

This documentary if you can even call it that is just allot of people saying oh they will do it tomorrow or oh they will join us tomorow and barley anything about the actual uboat that they areent to be looking for a F-ing waste of time

Where is U-479? Seems they are all over except U-479. 90% has nothing to do whatsoever with the title - Hunt! joking) for U-479. What a waste of time watching this series and worse storyline and amateurish cinematography.

This series was so poorly made. It should have been condensed to one video. Way too much boring nonsense. Unlike any other underwater ship wreck video I've ever seen.

Everyone else who has commented has said pretty much what I was going to write. Thats 3 hours of my life I will never get back. Pants documentary

If you have put this much time in to watching this documentary. And I use that word lightly, you are only going to be disappointed if you continue.

Nothing is free! Someone must pay. If one susbscribes to the free lie, then he is part of the wickedness of commie/socialist political tyranny.

According to U-boat. net, the wreck of a U-boat has been tentatively identified as U-479. In 2013. It is believed to have been sunk by mine.
