Legend tells of a utopian kingdom hidden among the towering mountains of inner Asia. A paradise on Earth, yet a place apart. A place of spiritual contentment and eternal life. A place thats become known to the West as Shangri-La. For centurys romantics, adventurers and the devout risked their lives searching for this heaven on Earth. Many perished in the quest. Those who returned told of a journey through hostile lands, of crossing treacherous mountain passes & desert gorges in their search for a valley where people live for hundreds of years. To this day its whereabouts remains a mystery. David Adams goes in search of Shangri-La in the icy valleys of the Himalaya and Karakoram Mountains in Far North Pakistan

To all the people that havent visited Pakistan your kissing out on experience different cultures and food as you travel through Pakistan. You will experience the weather change as you travel from south to north. The people of Pakistan no matter which side of the country will welcome you in to their arms and they will treat you with so much care and respect. As they believe welcoming guests and looking after them whilst theyre stay is a chance given to them to do good deed. They believe that anything you will eat or downs of theirs is in your destiny. Ive experienced this love from total strangers in Pakistan specially when I traveled and stayed at a strangers house as I was passing through to another city and the hospital and food omg no match for that from anywhere on earth. They would not take any money off you for food or stay in their homes. I miss their love. Love this video thank you for reminding me if this beautiful place. Xx

Thank you for this incredible video. I visited Chitral in the early seventies and hiked in to the Bomburet Valley. We hired a Land Rover to drop us on the mountainside about four hours from Chital and then hiked over the mountain and down to the valley. When you get down to the river, you can either go straight into the sprawling lush Bomburet Valley or turn right and follow the raging river into the Rombur or Rainbow Valley. At that fork we saw a totem and I wish I had a pic of that. The valley is a narrow crevice through the mountains. You have to continually crisscross over the river by carefully walking over bridges made from two huge logs that are joined in the middle with wooden dowels with the river cascading below. At one point I saw a parallel stream that was probably formed by a man made U turn that from the force of the water made the stream flow uphill. Again, thanks for the memory.

This was the cradle of the Vedas, the Hinduism, and later Buddhism. Great sages attained enlightenment here. Great knowledge was divined here. And what has become of it now? Persecution of Kalash, and imposition of archaic, medieval thinking that proscribes any other philosophy, rampant backwardness.
My ancestors came from here, and my heart bleeds to see what has become of this great, mesmeric region of my forefathers.

as a child I read Hilton's book and was fascinated later saw the movie Lost Horizon, loved it. as a student at university inHawaii I was invited to go on the hippie trail to Katmandu but opted out. wisely I think now. I was already living in paradise. always fascinated by the Orient as we called it then I've learned in my long life I make my own shangrila, or shambala --enlightenment. seek and ye shall find.

Read Arif Sahil's beautiful comment somewhere below (he's from Skardu where host David experienced the shamanic healing. As David rode the truck through the Shangri-la region conversing with some locals from these remote areas, I was amazed to hear these people speak English! Maybe they were translators ) but they spoke conversational English without any problem.

Heaven on earth. Revelations 21 and 22 - a new heaven and earth described. Very interesting documentary. I remember reading Shanghai-La as a required literature book in the 9th grade. Great book. You are right - master storyteller. Makes me wonder what is required literature today in 9th grade, or if they even read classic books anymore, or real history. Thank you.

James Redfield wrote books about adventures to shagali and came across light beings in the mountains they were attracted by the Chinese military! Moving stories. Tenth and eleventh insight also. People in the books all new each other from past lives meating on their journeys Shangri beings were able to create their dwellings from thought alone. !

Sitting up so high on that decorated truck was, riding through thin snow was an amazing sight. Then arriving in a region to see a shaman to heal the old man's pain and ill health was an experience (I thought shaman could break his neck! And being in a trance he sure didn't bump into others who were sitting down in a small room)

David Adams vocal timbre is very similar to that of Gordon Ramsay, if David were to speak in a British accent I would definitely think it was Gordon doing the whole narrations. Enjoyed the whole video especially the narrations.
