I watch this and clearly recognize how this country lies and lies and lies about everything. For years growing up in school and being taught about the Big Bad Socialist society and how we can't let it happen here in America. It seemed to me that the country should've looked closely at what Milwaukee was doing and seeing if it could take those concepts and make it so truly everyone can benefit from these policies and forward thinking ideas, but that would be too much like right, and the ones who want to basically enslave the citizens had to come up with ways to bring shade on Socialism and demonize it. The more we learn about the real America, the more upset I get because this could've been a real leader in the way of life, and how to include everyone, and everyone have chances to enhance and enrich life, but that is not what this country is about. Less than a Century and this country is in endless debt that it passes on to the tax payers, the lower class, and then spend the majority of that money on war, and stealing from a system they developed to rig the game to their advantage, while making the citizens their whipping boys. Capitalism vs Socialism, hummmmm, sure looks to me like Capitalism has failed and while Socialism has been proven to work in other Nations around the world, this one refuses to give any chance of it having a revival a passing thought in one's mind. Maybe one day after America falls into the abyss, some good people with honest intentions will take a look at the principles of Socialism and reboot America with it. Truly holding the leadership accountable, arresting those who rob and steal from her, and banishing those who all they want to do is crush us and take our money without improving our way of life. One can dream.

Whoever made this socialist-infomercial, I ask you to please move to China, North Korea, Cuba, or Venezuala for a few years. all countries I LIVED and worked in for decades.
Then tell me if Socialism is still as Euphoric as the music you dubbed into this silly video.
Look, US American Socialism [Milwauke], was NOT true socialism. That is the truth. NOR. are Social Safety Nets in our democracy, i. e. the VA & Social Security, Post Office, etc, anything like socialism. Simply because social is in the title or nomenclature--doesn't make it Socialism.
-- Bernie-the-dumb-dumb-Sanders stated we should all pay more than 90% or more in taxes, and TRUST the US government to do the right thing. haha! what a dumb $$. People. stop being naive. Socialism and Communism has FAILED MISERABLY in every country it was adopted in, for the last century. Gosh, read some books. Better yet, move to Venezuala.

The comment thread here is just typical of most of you Americans, isn't it? After over a century you STILL don't know the difference between socialism and Communism, do you?
Ah well, what can any of us non-Americans expect when you all seem to be reliving either the American War of Independence or the Civil War and using both of those as your terms of reference. Thankfully I'm not an American and I thoroughly enjoy living in the early 21st Century rather than being endlessly stuck in either the late 18th or the mid to late 19th Centuries as far too many of you Americans are.
History such as this should remain exactly where it belongs - in books - and those same books should be used as terms of reference and warnings and NEVER as templates for you to recreate in the modern era or in the future, shouldn't they?

My dog is a socialist. He gets free health care, free food, free room and board, free learning and I'm in control of the type of healthcare, the type of food and how much, where he sleeps, eat, lives and what he learns.
There are people that want to live as my dog does. They are socialist like my dog. I guess they need someone that will control their lives too. Like my dog they don't have the skills to exist in a capitalist system where they can work and make decisions about such things.
I'm not sorry for them because I believe in freedom. They are free to live like my dog since that's what they want. The problem is they want me to pay for all their stuff. I'm not going to. They are finding that out. Los Angelos is now 4th in the world for homeless. I guess that works for the socialist. Oh well.

I swear this doco was produced by CGTN on behalf of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China. Just to soften the American people up for the eventual communist takeover. The people named here as socialists were alive before socialism was a political force. Building sewerage farms isn't socialism, it's good governance. Having a social conscience isn't socialism, it's having respect for your fellow man. Back in the day I doubt any of the people featured here would have described themselves as socialists, unless someone wants to show otherwise. Their memories have been stolen by the left to butter up their loony agenda. Any child watching this would think socialism is the future. Only to realize as adults that their living in Venezuela. Sad and bad.

Many kinds of government can be successful IF, IF, the politicians entrusted with power run their constituencies with honesty, integrity and compassion. However, there are virtually no systems of government that can succeed when corruption, dishonesty, and spite for your constituents are your characteristics. This is getting to be a severe problem in the US; the voters keep wondering what structure will make the system better, when in reality, none of them will succeed with people like the Washington establishment running things.

1: 18 The purest socialism is the government's ownership of the means of production. That is so totally wrong and if that is what Americans think socialism means, there's no wonder they're against it.
Socialism actually started as a reaction against the sll powerful governments in late 18th Century Europe and it's all about distribution of wealth and power. The government may well be in charge of managing most of it but if so, there will always be very strong checks and balances to keep it honest.

It's no coincidence that Wisconsin with the most progressive congressman (Robert LaFollette) and a city run by Socialists (Milwaukee) ended up replacing one with Joe McCarthy and eventually replacing the last socialist mayor (Frank Zeidler) with a reactionary mayor who was opposed to the Civil Rights Movement. The political establishment of business interests and those who support white supremacy, will conspire to undermine and eventually replace those who threaten it the most.

In the 1950s, people in Bridgeport, CT got tired of the Republican and Democrat party. So they elected the guy who was running as a Socialist. He was no Socialist, he was crazy. For instance, he closed the Public Works during snowstorms. Not one snowplow went out, not ever. The Mayor's explanation? God put that snow on the ground and God will take it away. Since my father had to get into Bridgeport to work, he became a great adherent of snow tires.

Seems to me that only one thing prevents socialism from working, people! A man comes along with a woman on each arm singing in baritone, so the people vote for him! then Americans go all out to blacken the name of anyone linked to socialism/communism and innocent people worldwide lose there lives because America decided to stamp it out by any means they can!

Amazing information to allow the future to actually prosper instead of looking at the negative without losing the power of your own rights that historically were fought for and twisted though the war was won but the fight was never going to be over. War never ends and this just shows what happened after all those people came from.

Interesting that they tried socialism, but not that strict, more like Swedish socialism that works together with companies. It worked out fine, gave people parks, social security, better living, and so on, but they gave it up because of race, fear of communism, and voting for a more charming guy with balloons.

As a classical music fan from the greater Milwaukee area, all I have to say is that it's astounding how such a German city, one that put a large focus on community entertainment in the first half of the 20th century, did not have its own full-time symphony orchestra until 1959, the latest of all major cities.

, socialism Works in a racially homogeneous nation, state or territory where everyone in the society is a member of an extended family. Just look at phenomenal transformation of Germany in the 1930s. Open border vibrant multiculturalism is incompatible with socialism. Find one successful example

Love this documentary highlighting Milwaukee's Sewer Socialists though one minor tidbit: while Milwaukee was the most successful Socialist-run city in the US, Bridgeport, Connecticut was also pretty successful as well even if they liked to be called Social Democrats rather than Socialists.

The big problem with socialism is how do you ensure a socialist government will have checks on its growth and power? After all, when you boil it all down, there are only two types of governments: A sober, limited government and an unlimited, ever-growing government. Ill take the former.

Um, Burlington, Vermont, also. Probably the best in-town Bus service in VT, and a greatly enhanced water-front area to Lake Champlain. Too bad Burton 'left town' for China, but, Jake was a Republican, so. But, Bernie left his mark here, and the place is Better for it!

Pretty cool concept, I'd much more prefer our country had a decentralized government giving cities and states the freedom to govern their citizens however the public sees fit. That way laws requested and needed in California dont effect people in Texas or New York

Cool story, but last time I checked the left set Milwaukee on fire not that long ago. Are the folks harkening back to these politicians going to reconcile that with the contemporary volatile nature of the people who champion such socialist ideology today?
