Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) That is Torquay, Madam.
Mrs Richards: Its not good enough!
Basil: May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window Sydney Opera House, perhaps the Hanging Gardens of Babylon Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past.
Mrs Richards: Dont be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!
Basil: You can see the sea, its over there between the land and the sky.
Mrs Richards: Im not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction.

2: 52. I worked at Val's hamburgers in 1969. A place that was nearly identical to McDonald's back in the day. Prices then: Hamburger: .15, with cheese: .20, French fries: .10. High butter fat milk shake, vanilla, chocolate or strawberry: .25, fish sandwich with steamed bun (man, the were as soft as cotton). 24, soda pop: .10 &. 15. Imagine getting 2 hamburgers, French fries and a milk shake for sixty five cents. Back then my hourly wage was a dollar twenty five an hour. That was minimum wage then. I still have my W-2 from that job. I made like 2 grand that year part time while still in high school.

At 3: 51, that isn't Titanic, that's her sister ship RMS Olympic in the Thompson graving dock being fitted out. As far as anyone knows, there are no surviving photos of Titanic's propellers or of any extensive work being done on her below the waterline. Some notes that were discovered a while back at Harland and Wolff indicate that Titanic had a three-bladed center propeller, part of the experimentation White Star Line and H&W were doing to make improvements that would allow the ship better fuel consumption, lower vibration, and maybe slighter better speed.

4: 00 Walkman has nothing to do with iPod, besides portability
you had up to 90' music and maybe 2 hrs batteries (not rechargeable)
my iPod had 4Gb memory (up to 80 hours music) and up to 8 hours battery life (rechargeable)
price are incomparable, too.
Walkman was $200 ($680 today) a lot of batteries

I would have thought that the Sony Walkman would be closer to and i pod not an i phone seeing as it recorded and played music. If there was a switch or something on my Walkman that opened its use as a phone I never found it!

3: 57. Imagine what it took to make just those propellers and now on the bottom after being brand new not a barnacle on them when they went down in over thirteen thousand feet of black as coal water.

I can imagine McDonalds tasted so much better then, and everything was 3 times the size for a fraction of the price! I love that picture of Robert Plant out with his family, very rare and retro!

My favorites - Betty Paige, Batman behind the scenes, Correct Posture Contest (which is a joke today, Sophia Loren (ridiculous, Helen Keller, Joe Cocker, McDonald's menu.

Elvis didn't join the Army. He was drafted into the Army. BIG difference. I was stationed, 1979-81 where his ship came into port at Bremerhaven Germany, in 1958.

Didn't recognize Betty Page with her clothes on. Hope those three contestants didn't get cancer from x-ray radiation overdose which was so typical back then.

The original Sony Walkman did not have the word Walkman on it, this was added for the second production run. The original had the word Stereo instead. :-)

Elvis’s mom literally looks like Pinky’s mom in Pink Floyd’s The Wall. God, she even suits the animated version.

What do you mean A young 27 year old Janis Joplin, 1970. That's as old as she ever got. She never got any older.
reply

That photo of Joplin was earlier, probably right after she left Big Brother. She died at 27 years of age.

In high school I wanted to be like Janis. I had a guitar and thought she was so cool. (class of 1972)
