I was 12 years old working on the weekend getting newspaper subscriptions and the van I was in that took us kid's from orange park florida to an apartment community in Jacksonville had dropped us off and we each went knocking on doors by ourselves and I knocked on my first customers door when member's of Lynyrd Skynyrd opened the door and invited me inside, asked if I wanted a beer and said, do you know who we are? I said no. and someone said we're Lynyrd Skynyrd, look on this wall. Where they took me further into the apartment and on the back wall, about 15 feet inside the apartment, was a wall where decorated albums were displayed. And someone pointed out, that's a gold album, you ever seen a gold album kid? And then another person interrupted, and Said, hey kid, you want a beer? And I know Ronnie said leave him alone, he's just a kid. Then I exited.

I was working on my instrument rating with a former airline pilot back in early fall of 1977 at Greenville Municipal Airport. We taxied past a Convair that had been sitting there for at least a few days. My instructor told me it was for sale for $90, 000 but it had a bad jug in one of the radial engines, is what he said. It was old looking, but had an electric piano inside, and a sofa. It was like a charter plane. It sat there for a few more days I guess, then it was gone. Years later, I heard about the Skynyrd crash, and that it was on a Convair. It was the same plane.

The pilots made a grave mistake letting anyone step foot on that plane. The band was told there were mechanics that would meet them the next day in Baton Rouge to work on the bad engine. Hello. The band had the night off so handle the repairs, then fly to Baton Rouge for the gig. Second mistake was the failure of both of them to monitor the fuel onboard. Still, they almost made it. Check aerial photos of the crash site and you will see how close they got to the open, expansive green field clear of obstruction. A few hundred yards at the most.

Im building a guitar from wood from the Hell House original Dock, and foundation from Hell House, and incorporating metal from the plane. Once its complete we will loan it out to touring musicians so those timbers will continue to sing and vibrate. LLLS.
Long Live Lynyrd Skynyrd. if anybody knows Gary Rossington Id love for him to sign it when complete, or donate a pick, or something I can incorporate into it. Tell him to hit me up.

I was there watching them play in that last concert. There was a fight that broke out in the back of the crowd and Eddie told them that it would be the last time that they would play there songs in this town. I hear that voice saying that more than I remember the concert. It was the last time they played anything. I cried when I found out about the crash.

As a pilot. you learn that trying to save the plane is not always the best course of action. When you know you are going to crash find the best place and do it quickly. Don't make hard turns and don't die while trying to get to the airfield. Land in the cow field not the trees. Or as Sullie did, land in the river not the in the buildings.

I had seen them a few months before the crash. I met Artimas Pyle a few years ago at a biker rally in NC. he talked about the crash. He said the farmer he found for help. Shot him in the ass, when he 1st came upon him. he was still very sad about it all. Ronnies wife took over and ran him off i guess.

Racism will die. A severe case of sunburn. Red as lobsters. That confederate flag the same as their skin. God made melanin. For his children. Love black people hair. Whites say it's nappy but in the winter we are kept warm. And the summer our scalps don't burn. No way we're whites in Africa. Egypt.

If I remember correctly, the cover of Street Survivor was also changed due to fact the flames in the background only touched the members who died in the crash. Additionally, I believe one of the members who walked out searching for help was shot or shot at by a farmer. Could be urban legends?

How come you didn't mention where they crashed? I used to live in the county where it happened. It was in Amite County, Mississippi outside of a little rural community named Gillsburg. From what I understand, there has been a memorial put there either by the landowners or surviving members.

I know some folks don't agree but there should no longer be a Lynyrd Skynyrd. Trying to replace Ronnie is not even possible so lets celebrate the real band for the great rock n roll they gave us and go fishing in the rain.

You forgot the part where VanZant was calling himself and telling everyone that he was the Mississippi kid before the next leg of the tour, all while never being to that state before in his life untill his plane crashed there.

After the crash you never saw a lot of the other band members crying about the deaths because they were so pissed off and angry because they didnt want to be on that plane they knew it was garbage.

Those concerts were canceled anyway disappointing fans. Would have been better to get another plane? Ronnie may be the greatest front man ever but obviously had a death wish like Buddy Holly

Imagine how those students awaiting L. S. felt when they got the news. If Journey crashed on their way to Humboldt S. U. I'd have cried. I saw the Skynard at Oakland at a 'Day on the Green'.

I dont think Ronnie got on that plane thinking it would crash, I believe it would have fixed Ronnie if he had lived knowing what happened to Steve and Cassie.
