Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
On April 14, 1865, John Wilkes Booth shot Abraham Lincoln at Ford's Theatre in Washington, DC. Much has been written about Booth's motivations: that he was a Confederate sympathizer, or suffering from professional jealousy, or simply wanted attention. Regardless, when Booth left Ford's Theatre that night, he had indelibly changed the course of history, slaying a man now considered one of the nation's greatest presidents. In the weeks, months, and years following the event, the nation grappled with the consequences of Booth's actions. But for Booth himself, the results were much more immediate. In John Wilkes Booth's final days, he ran. He ran for 13 days, from Ford's Theatre all the way to a small farm near Port Royal, VA. The search to find him was one of the biggest manhunts in history, with 10, 000 federal troops involved

From 1861-1865 the TRUE NATURE and meaning of States rights was more like 'every man - and state - for itself. The more I research Confederate States History, the more I realize just how dysfunctional and divided the Confederacy really was. What is MORE, in point of Fact, perpetual Squabbling amongst the Southern leadership and constant hubris and backstabbing within the Confederate cabinet put Jefferson Davis in even more of an IMPOSSIBLE situation. As the war dragged, He was constantly being undermined and as the war went on he woukd eventually just stop listening to and COMPLETELY disregard his advisors. I could go on and on but basically their obsessively coveted States Rights directive meant that the entire Confederacy as a whole would never allow themselves to gel as a nation. For reasons I'll NEVER comprehend the powers that be of the Confederacy failed from git go to become a nation because of their 'precious' and coveted STATES RIGHTS Dilemma.

Two mistakes in the first three minutes should I watch the rest. First mistake the play was notbcalled Mt american cousin it. is. By tom taylor called our American cousin 2nd mistak the town in MD than he went to was notbcalled seritts it was called Suaratsvikkw named after Mary surats husband who was the post master before his son John Jr took his job. Third mistake booth did not break his leg on his landing on stage he broke leg after he left surattsville that is why then proceeded to dr Mudds house to get leg set. I'm not going to watch the it's no fun as a Canadian to have to point out errors on American history that Americans learn before they know who the president of Canada is lol

Booth was the greatest Assassin in history. He did it with a single shot, jumped 12 ft down onto the stage and fled out the back with a broken anckle and lead the Union army on a 2 week manhunt before being cornered and killed. John Wilkes Booth was also the Greatest actor of all time and be remembered long after every other actor before or since has been forgotten.
Compare that to Lee Harvey Oswald who nearly botched killing JFK with piss poor shooting that was so bad that he ended up shooting the man through the neck before narrowly hitting him in the head on his 3rd and last shot. He wouldn't have gotten off a 4th had he missed. The first shot missed JFK and the car entirely.

No man in history did more to earn his fate than lincoln. He caused an unnecessary war that resulted in over 600, 000 battlefield deaths. Add the injuries that were worse than death and the widows and orphans that abe created, it comes up to about two million lives ruined. Then, there is the effect of removing such a large number of grandfathers from the familiy structure. It should be clear by now this guy was no hero. lincoln was also a dimwit. Anybody with half a brain who did what he did would stay hidden or travel with a hundred body guards. Nobody but his was surprised his second term ended early.

President Abraham Lincoln is my second but last. Bodily incarnation, President Kennedy. Is the one after that. I am named before the man who designed the Middlesbrough Transporter Bridge. Thanks for all these clips. They are very interesting. I know. That John Wilkes Booth ancestors came from Teesside, where I come from. One of them performed in In what is now Stockton on Tees Courtyard Hotel. Georgian theatre. Where I was a regular.

You know when you say the play was called my American cousin as you show the play bill of our American cousin it makes it seem like you didnt do your research and everything you state beyond this seemingly trivial detail should be questioned. Also he wasnt one of the most infamous assassins in US history he was the most famous at his pony in history. Facts smacks, right Steve.

Im an historian that has lived in Southern Maryland most of my life. I had volunteered at the Mudd home for a few years and have given the Booth reenactment tour of that night, it starts at Fords theater and ends at the Garrett farm house. Whats left of the Garrett farm house is just a cleared wooded area in the middle of state route 301 in Virginia.

I am not in economist or historian. That being said, Im pretty sure that $100, 000 in 1865 is the equivalent of all a lot more than $1. 5 million today. The whole Civil War only cost the union about $2 billion whereas today one war ship is more than that in one nuclear submarine is a lot more than that.

I despise my biological sperm donor more than John Wilkes Boothe. Do a documentary about THAT nightmare on wheels.
Evil fcker should habe gone to jail and never did. Glad I got to see his downfall. Happy to see a world without him in it.

Can I just say that the only reason Secretary Seward was to be killed was because he was bedridden after a carriage accident. And the only reason the Vice President wasnt killed was because George Aztredolt was drinking and the more he thought about it the worse the plan sounded

Something that people always looked at me weirdly for was that my last name is the same as his. Although Im sure Im not related to him, its pretty creepy yet cool to have the same last name as a murderer. Not much of one that killed a president, but you get the point.

Lincoln didn't die right away he took him hours to die he died about midnight which was the last the next day so he suffered and and the doctors caused his suffering cuz he proved his brain if they hadn't probed he died because the Derringer didn't cause much damage
reply

I heard there were different last words attributed to Booth, but the autopsy revealed his spinal chord was severed at the neck, which should have made impossible for him so speak or swallow. He lived for 2 hours paralyzed from the neck down, but conscious.

The loser actually called Lincoln a tyrant, while literally fighting on the side who wanted to continue enslaving human beings? Damn, the Democrats have never changed, have they? Baffling levels of projection.
reply

If Lincoln died the next day, then wouldn't he have died from a failed attempt of an assassination? Since he didn't fall dead where he set. Just as a sniper doesn't want to have to a second shot.
reply

I dont understand where was the security He didnt have a couple of soldier outside Where he was sitting thats is Very odd Rest in peace Abraham Lincoln you were a good man thats why they kill you
reply
