. I would be remiss not to add that I am also glad not to have to worry about hearing those word on general Tv and radio programs. I prefer my four children do not use them.
Well, I also prefer they not grow up unwilling to consider several viewpoints when attempting to learn new information, nor to think subjective opinions can be facts, nor become fearful of and hateful towards people they do not know.
The more I think about it, The consequences of those sources may be more far more concerning. For certain when the 1% of swearing comes with the vast benefits of laughter and potential to learn not take ourselves so dam seriously.
Unless we follow other countries who allow punishment when someones subjective interpretation of words led to hurt feelings and therefore the user of those words can now be fined or punished. Wow!
Okay, seems maybe I should join the children and stay away from the endless bizarre effect of news myself! :)

I wish I lived back in the 40s and 50s. No. the 19th century. When people had morals.
I grew up watching the George Carlin show on network TV. Then I moved on to watching his stand up at 12 years old. He shaped my thinking to a great extent obviously. I also had a comedy addiction. As a teen my TV never left Comedy Central. This was in the 90s though when they mostly played stand up. I had a really miserable life and all that stand up kind of kept me going you know. I'm grown now and Comedy Central, like MTV sucks donkey testicles.

Growing up in the sixties, there was only one true comedian. George was groundbreaking in that he everyday situations and embellished just slightly to fit his humor. His 7 Words were insightful. I then explored Lenny Bruce who I found out was Carlin's mentor with good reason. To this day, America is still behind most of Europe in what can be said or shown in the public domain. Paid services of course, throws all that aside.

When I was in 7th grade it was expected and socially mandatory that one had to know and could recite the seven words on demand. It must have been an initiation thing. I memorized them and never forgot them to this day. It was 7th grade and we were kids. Didn't know what it all meant. The only meaningful thing was to be a part of the group and being accepted and having friends.

It's ironic that through his comedy, George Carlin brought to light how certain words should not be censored. Yet today, cancel culture is a big deal, because the radical left feels they have the right to cancel others if you disagree with them! Even Bill Mar sees the absurdity of this cancel culture attack on free speech!
George Carlin would hate today's cancel culture!

. So the FCC won't let me be or let me be me so let me see.
The FCC is one of those bureaucratic organizations that exist solely for the purpose of bureaucracy.
And after looking up their mission statement. no I don't think they had the right to censor anything and shouldn't have been given that right in the first place.
But. America

Well, in 1970 I was working at a club in Hollywood called The Experience because Jimi Hendrix was one of the owners. I met Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Jimi and the band The Experience there. I also started working for the band Chicago as a roadie! Other than that, it was just another year!

I never realized what an influence Carlin had on me as a writer until after he died. His clear love of the English language (not just the profanity, is something that inspires me to this day and is something I try to exhibit in my own writings (although I'm not nearly as funny.

Isn't it ironic you are censoring these words here? I find it hilarious that 100% of listeners knows what goes under the beeps, it's not like sht is miraculously shirt, bit it's beeped for no reason. Will it prevent kids from repeating the word? I can't see how it could.

This was made in 2020 and you make no mention of Sunshine Clause laws. These are about when this kind of swearing is allowed on broadcast; e. i. Comedy Central Secret Stash which aired uncensored movies. I feel like that is an important legacy to Carlin.

People who defend saying profanities dont have any kids and do not realize how quickly children pick up swear words. Swears on media should not be censored, but there is a time and place where they can be said.

George Carlin was genius. I wish I'd found about him earlier when he was still alive. His satire on religion is breath-takingly honest and sorely needed.

I always have been and always will be a fan of George Carlin, Lenny Bruce, many other comedians that use profanity. It's a form of expressing ones self.

Most of the infamous seven words can be heard on mainstream Canadian television after 9: 00 PM. So which country has greater freedom of speech again?

Calling Carlin a mere comedian seems demeaning to a thinker on his level. Comedy was his tool, but he should be considered a modern philosopher.

I was 13 and me and a friend listened over and over, rolling on the floor, that album and Cheech and Chong were our favorites, great memories.

I bought the album Class Clown, my first comedy album, in the mid '70s. My parents thought the routine funny, but somewhat rude
