I loved in Yucatan, married a Mayan decent and have a Mayan little girl, very little Spanish in her bloodline as most of the family there still live just miles from the uxmal Mayan temple in stick huts and still only speak Mayan, none speak Spanish, I've met and eaten with them in and it's interesting that my 3yr old daughter aptly named and seen in my profile pic looking like a true Maya lol, she has genetic characteristics that are so interesting, she loves Chile, anything spicy, and dances very culturally even though I am American and she's not been around any Mayan family since she was 8 months old!

Imagine being a gladiator, walking out of the gates for the 1st time. All spectators of the Colloseum were screaming and cheering for you. You were disappointed that the Emperor himself didn't show up to watch the fight, but you will fight gloriously. Then you realize, your enemy, IS the Roman Emperor, Emperor Commodus. The only Roman Emperor to fight in the Colloseum.

Why bother with predator animals, wildebeest, a hyena, lions, tigers, even whale! Shouldve left em in their habitat as the most barbaric and savage and destructive animals are right there, tens of thousands all around you in plain sight at the Colosseum. They hail from the most devastating, dangerous and arrogant species called Homo sapiens.

Such wonderful, loving, caring, heart warming, well meaning, gentle people. those Romans. It's a very good thing we used them as a template for our modern 'civilization'. otherwise we'd be ruled by power hungry, war mongering, exploiting, murdering, greedy bastards and we would've all became economic slaves! Imagine that.

It's actually misleading that most gladiators fought to the death. That would be a waste of talent and resources. Most were well trained and mainly fought until the other fighters were subdued. Only rarely did they fight to the death. That was mostly for criminals and slaves.

i never understood how people would enjoy watching someone being beaten to death or even worse slaughtering innocent animals. We as the human race should be better than that. unfortunately it still continues to this day with bull, cock and dog fights, it's sickening!

Have we come to a consensus on what you all think I should be doing outside of delivering uber eats, yet? Or are you still deliberating? Or is it chaos?
Maybe. Delivering uber eats and being responsibly armed is EXACTLY what I should be doing.

I always buy baseball tickets in the upper sections. I imagine the upper sections of the colosseum were built that way so that women could walk around and socialize, instead of baking in the sun with the men below.

Also a massive untrue movie clichee, thumbs up and thumbs down. Thumbs up meant kill him and when mercy was granted the emperor would fold his thumb onto his palm and and let the other fingers enclose it.

The Damn Naughty! Heh, I know that's not the Latin spelling. If I couldn't get a seat in the second section, I just wouldn't go. I'm not into blood sport. However, a naval battle might be interesting.

There is evidence that Christians were eaten by the lions. That evidence would be letter from st Ignacius of Antiohia that he sent to Christians that he sheppared before he was eaten by the lion.

I like to see government now fighting each other. we all could sit in the coliseum and either point a thumb up or down. the winner would rule for 3 years what would be left of them of course

The colosseum is built where Nero's lake was. Wow. I love obscure facts the are rarely mentioned in this PC world. I call it the whole truth. You all should greatly value it. It is important.

There are many accounts of Christians being murdered by Rome.
They are the most persecuted group in history and are still being killed in various parts of the world to this day.

Nero did set Christians on fire just to light up his lawn parties. Thats what a real Roman Candle really is, Nero blamed them for the great Fire that burned down most of Rome.

I know violence isnt the best thing to watch but man imagine how amazing it was to attend. Youd have to have the feeling that youre part of something truly special.

The games were rigged by the emperor, senators, and vociferous elites. Bread and circuses. The convicts (gladiators) even enjoyed it, for a short while.

I am willing to bet people today would still watch this but then again just as many would probably just watch it at home on their tablets or cellphones

How did they manage to keep the floor from caving in during the mock sea battles? The weight of the water must have been tremendous!

The Velarium is so impressive(5: 00. Making a sheet that large, maintain it, and covering the stadium is a remarkable feat.
