Marie Antoinette faced tragedy as the queen of France - but what was life like for Marie Antoinette's kids? As queen, Marie Antoinette gave birth to four children, but only one of them survived the French Revolution. Although the queen's children grew up in luxury, living in the lavish palace of Versailles, two spent years locked in a tower during the Revolution

The French monarchy was already doomed way before the young king and queen sat on their respective thrones. Years of petty wars and extravagant spending on nonsensical items drained the royal treasury. They were only able to keep up appearances by continuing to tax the poor while the rich partied. Not to mention; the young King Louis made the error (and arrogant decision) to help the American colonies in their war with the British. That move was nothing but a vain attempt at show of power by the French at their long time English rivals. If they didn't help America; they might have been able to hold on to the monarchy a few more years, maybe even stabilize the government with the right advisors to the king.

It's not the children's fault to be their parents' kids. But they had to suffer for being their parents' children. I feel sorry for their children. Had they lived a normal life, they probably wouldn't experience any of the cruelty. I srly felt the pity to the boy who died at the age of 10, being imprisoned at the age of 4 and witnessing all those traumatizing events, being beaten at such a young age, having been forced to testify against his own mother. While on the other hand, there comes his older sister who's hearing his cries every time the beating is happening. It's not their fault, but the punishment didn't excuse them for being part of the family.

I blame no rebel, since if I was there, I too would hate the King and Queen. But seriously m8? Targeting their innocent children? Real creative, rebels, real creative. Crossed the line.
I feel really bad for her children. Her daughter was kept away from the news of her relatives dying, and she could hear her brother getting beaten. I can't imagine being mistreated and being locked up because of what my parents did, nor can I imagine hearing somebody getting beaten up like that.

Its not like I take pleasure from the torture of children but I understand why the revolutationaries did this to eliminate the chance of their children growing up in exile or in a foreign country and then avenging their parents. Also if I were King and my whole family was hunted I would definitely split up with my kids and wife because if I were found, theyd all be found, which is what happened here.

WHY NO ONE MENTIONS THEY WERE LIKE 14 &15! THATS WHY THEY DIDNT CONSUMATE THE MARRIAGE, BUT HISTORIANS STILL BELIEVE THAT LOUIS HAD SOME CONDITION REVOLVING INTIMACY. THAT WAS WAY LATER. thankfuly some royal of the court said not to pressure them and that theyd grow into their marriage they were just kids and consideirng the pressure and Louis ofcourse they needed time to grow up

Man. That was a much more difficult watch than I expected. The film about her life always made me uncomfortable and I only watched it once. This was a LONG time ago, so I dont remember the film well. She was portrayed as a gregarious, sweet, rowdy type of woman who drank to much.
What a hard life. Followed by a very misunderstood legacy.

This is soo depressing. These kids did nothing wrong but be born into this foolishness. unfortunately this happened all over, those other two princes who were looked in the tower of London because of their uncle not wanting them to rule. It's sickening how people will do anything for power and to keep power.

It was unconsummated because she was only 14 at the time they married each other. She is my relative by marriage by the way. And believe me King Louis 16 had no psychological issues other than the simple fact that she was under age. Something that boys in USA would do quite well to emulate by the way.

At least she wasnt like Queen VictoriaShe was not parent material. She just loved sleeping with her German cousin she married and couldnt even dress herself without him. Pathetic. And all the Kings of that time slept with numerous women while married so that invalid to me.

They came to America and became the Paysuers. Bruce Springsteen is actually a decendant of them. Weird I know but Fritz Springmier talk about it in his book. If you guys think these kids died message me I got a bridge in Brooklyn u to sell you.

I feel really bad for a little prince, at the age of 4 revolution happened. Until the age of 10 was imprisoned in single cell. Childs mind is not capable to survive such crisis. But they couldnt let him go either, he was a heir. Horrible.

Two wrongs never make a right. As excessive as the French aristocracy were, doesnt justify immense cruelty and abuse to children. Revolutions are never bloodless, but theyre also rarely just to all for the sake of an ideology.

I feel sad for the royal family kids sometimes they have to deal with peer pressure and they have to do things they dont wish. I bet sometimes they wish they could have a normal life like the citizens
reply

The French never truly won because they became the monsters they fought to destroy. Both parties in their own way are evil. Children will forever be innocent regardless of who and where they came from.
reply

It's not weird history! It is the the telling the truth! Facts are facts. To pretend something didn't happen when in fact it did happen. Whitewashing is what some people call it.
reply

The children were innocent in all of this. They didn't deserve the treatment they got. They could've let them live and just abolish the monarchy overall. So sad.
reply

And doesn't that abuse to children still exist today? Age of consent is like 14. Some sick people, the french- And they stick their nose up to other nations? Please.
reply

Hearing about things like this and knowing humans have been on Earth for so long. Children basically only JUST have rights. Within the past 150+ years! It's insane!
reply

Marie Antoinette and her children were just the victim of the era. Leaders of French revolution just used them to start their own leadership.
reply

Everyone knows, the survivors were taken to America were they lived in the settlement Rapides De Pere in the territory of Ouisconsin.
