Quick note though Hawaiian Japanese Americans as a whole did not face the mass internment the government still sent people they deemed a risk to the mainland for internment and a decent amount those came the 2, 000 that were arrested immediately after. The majority of them had lived US for years and had relatives who were citizens or were born in the US and had citizenship. Just like on the mainland the government never found any evidence for their accusations the closest they found to collaboration was a Japanese-American couple that helped a drowning pilot during the attack which resulted in pilot being killed by other locals and the husband killing himself. So yeah most population stayed were they were under Marshall (which is not a good way to live, but we shouldn't forget about that 2-3% and the injustice the government did to them.

The first draft of FDR's war declaration against Japan described December 7 as a date that will live in WORLD HISTORY. In a hand-written note, he changed WORLD HISTORY to INFAMY, thereby adding more impact to one of the most famous speeches in USA history. My only living link to WW2 is my 94yo mother who still recalls the silence that fell over her Chicago neighborhood when FDR was conducting one of his fireside chats (everybody was home sitting by the radio. She also told me that when FDR died in 1945, she saw her immigrant father in tears for the very first time. Her family loved FDR so much that they kept a framed portrait of him in their dining room. I value these stories, because my grandfather died at 52 the same month WW2 ended, and I never knew him.

My uncle Edward was on the Navy. He flew a plane that sunk a submarine off the west coast. His plane was shot up and he had his men bail out. When the men were rescued my uncle was missing. They found him in his plane where he belly landed on a beach. He was still in his seat. He was alive but was shot through both legs. That is all I know about that incident. If you could find out about this I would like to know if anything else took place. His name was Edward Sylvester Adams. He is Deceased and I'm 77 years old. I don't know what information you would like about how to get in touch with me. Thank you

The internment campsmost of them were innocent but fear made the government and the people of America who arnt Japanese see them as all enemies. its sad that when a group of people are attacking then the country starts looking all of that race in the countries population and see them as potential threatseven though its a high likelihood they are innocent and actually see America as home and want America to winI wouldnt judge them if they distrusted the government and the people after all that

What do you want to bet the speech was sitting on Roosevelt's desk a week before this? Japan was purposely provoked into attacking Hawaii. No wonder Americans absorb and believe everything they have pounded into their heads all their lives. Weapons of mass destruction anybody? QUESTION! QUESTION! QUESTION! anything and everything the US government tells you! Think about it.

The attack on Pearl Harbor was a very foolish mistake for the Japanese Empire to make.
As much as I love FDR I can't defend the internment camps.
Something might have needed to have been done but he took it to far.
It's really scary to think about how fast panic can make a population isolate and abuse its minorities.

The type of little piece of obvious filth, that cries, Witch! or anything else to inspire others to destroy. Possibly, those business owner's only source of income for survival. Needed locked up, and forced to pay some percentage of the full restitution. Plus several thousand dollars more for the suffering they created.

The battle had been raging for 3 hours then.
In regards to the reporter on the Honolulu advertiser building, the attacks on Pearl Harbor didnt even last 2 hours in total so not sure where youre pulling that information from. Seems like a minor inconsistency, but still

Another great video! I was thinking and maybe you could do a video on the topic of what life was like for Jewish people in Germany after WWII ended. I apologize if this already exists. I recently started reading The book thief and this question keeps popping up in my mind.

How are you going to leave out the fact that Eisenhower cut off oil supplies to the Japanese? Instigating the attack. They knew it was coming but that was their way of making the American people tolerant to the US entering the war.

Fun fact: in 1945, 6 people died, a pregnant woman and 5 children, in Bly, Oregon due to a Japanese balloon bomb. These, as far as I know, are the first and only deaths to happen on the mainland during that period.

Hello! A challenge to the producers: make one of the most even-keeled US presidents, Chester Arthur, seem incredibly awesome, because we should be lauding his leadership skills

Lights out by 11 pm - Gee that's quite late into the night, and especially winter time that far north. There could easily have been raids in the night, before that time.

Hawaii wasnt a state until 1959, so Japanese people in Hawaii cant be considered Japanese Americans. It was a territory until 18 years after the attack on Pearl Harbor

I was surprised that after we declared war on Japan, Germany and Italy immediately declared war on the U. S. That was fast! I didn't realize that Japan was an ally of Germany.

At 5: 15, weird to show a photo of Ike talking to 101st airborne troops prior to their boarding aircraft for their D-Day assault. A great photo, btw.

Kind of bewildering when you realise how history has repeat itself and major news outlets still spread major misinformation about conflicts and wars

Surprisingly I was taught in school most of what was discussed in this video. There were some aspects of the video that I had not heard of.
