just a quick note re settlement.
The english were not the first to settle Australia.
Its not a well known fact that the Dutch actually had a functioning settlement before any englishmen viewed our Terra Australis otherwise known as the Great Southern Land(thanks Icehouse!
i remember having to watch the movie featured, For the term of his natural life, about a convict who tries to escape imprisonment named Rufus Dawes, for my Australian Studies class at Brunswick High in Victoria in the 90s.
If anyone is interested in this subject, i highly recommend the above movie.
Ive rewatched it a coupla times and find it to be a quality production!
Can you hear, can you hear the thunder, You better run, you better take cover. yeeeahhhh

Australian history wants to be avoided.
British jail for many years
There was a guy wanted to marry his sister but she didnt so she went to the police where he had a shoot out to get her back. They call him Ned Kelly & he used armour like medieval times.
Till 1950 they used to kill babies who were half aboriginal or Asian.
No wars or anything exciting just genocide of the local people & anyone of diverse blood (they called them creamys)
First refusal of the Illuminati with a prime minister who is now forgotten as they have taken over already. So itll never be told.
Europeans when they learn about Australian history they get disgusted & cant be taught in school as it will only incite racism or its just plain morbid

Funny story from the first settlers is that word got around that behind the mountains lay China and many convicts lost their lives when they escaped to China. Some convicts were sent there as a way to dispose of them.
When the colony had reached 200 families the first Gazette began to circulate, but there was no news to write about so the top stories were just small events that occurred throughout the neighbourhood. One of the headlines was Pig bites baby.
I happen to live in an area that was settled in 1789 by runaway convicts who refused to go back to the colony and eventually Governor King gave some of them land grants in 1805 when they successfully grew corn and planted fruit trees.

Actually, Australia didn't become fully independent under the Statute of Westminster until the passage of the Australia Act 1986 which finally removed the British Parliament's power ri legislate for Australia in certain areas. Oh, and BTW, at the time of Australia becoming a penal colony, there was no 'English government' it had been the government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain since the Act of Union 1707.

This was really informative but a bit of a white lie; you breezed over the bit about the genocide of the indigenous people of the entire land, including every single indigenous Tasmanian, which was a culture isolated from the rest of the world, undisturbed for 8000 years until the British turned up in 1803, by 1835 the indigenous population went from 3000+ to 400. And continued to drop.
And continues to drop.

So they came there with the lowest of their societyremoved the native inhabitants, then removed the restraints they had on their own prisoners and acted like nothing happened. How self righteous do you have to be to move into a place, immediately make the lowest of yourselves higher than the highest of the natives

My Australian school never taught me why the British sent their prisoners or how they where treated just that captain cook had done ships and dropped off some prisoners. This is why I know more about Europe and American history than my own. Didnt even know we werent an independent nation until the 31

Got interested with this video. I'm from the Philippines but I have a sister in Melbourne. She married an Australian, initially they lived here in the Philippines but later decided to move to Australia. I now miss my half Filipino, half Australian nephew and nieces. Hoping for a family reunion.

I'm Australian but never knew the role that the American war of independence played in our society. If the US had not rebelled, our Aboriginals would have been left in peace for a few more years. But someone from Europe or Asia was sure to have taken over the country at some stage.

Not all Australians was convicts. Most Australians early settlers came out during Australia gold rush from 1840s onwards. Convict heritage makes up less than 2% of the population amongst the British settlers

Could you do a video on the history of Chocolate Milk which was first invented in Jamaica by enslaved Africans. Sir Hans Sloane was credited for its invention because the slaves were owned by him.

More Americans need to learn that Great Britain banished at least 50, 000 criminals, against their wishes, to North America. They were dumped here and didn't come by their own free will.

As a dual American-Canadian citizen, I offer this observation from my travels: Australia is like the USA + UK. New Zealand is like Canada + UK. Both places are incredible in their own way.

Ah yes Ye olde Australia: If the grueling penal labor and harsh climate didn't kill you, the wildlife probably would've.
Seriously, you Australians are tough as nails.

There was no explanation of what happened to the Aboriginal people. Were they just herded to the west, run off their land into little reservations like here in the US?

I don't understand. Brits initially sent convicts to North America, even when United States is established, they can still send convicts to Canada.

The big question is:
Why did Britain have so many criminals? Did they women with them? . I think the criminal story is only part of the story.
