In 1994, Nicholas Barclay vanished from his neighborhood in San Antonio. Three years later, he was found in Spain, having allegedly escaped from a military child sex ring. When he returned home to Texas, he appeared physically different and spoke with a French accent. The family excused all of this and accepted him into their family. But of course, this very different person wasn't Nicholas Barclay at all. After several months of passing himself off as Nicholas, 29-year-old French con artist Fr d ric Bourdin admitted he had stolen the identity of Nicholas, the family's long-lost son. But how could the family be so blind? Neko: The family is responsible for Nicholas' murder - either directly or indirectly - and are covering it up. Pathitic that the police are letting them do it. But what do you expect. Because of the interference of the imposter Nicholas' case will never be reviewed.

Man, this is something. Crazy and eerie. A man from France passing himself off as a orphan? It's almost like he's been young forever. He's the real life version of Peter Pan! There was a similar situation when a man passed himself off a missing boy from Illinois. He was exposed. The boy is still missing.

So if the boy had tattoos at 13, wouldn't they be able to tell when the imposter had no tattoo or different tattoos? Cover ups are usually easy to spot because of how big they usually are and because a lot of artists aren't particularly good at them.

There is a great Casual Criminalist on this whole thing that s a bit more in depth and you can t believe how much further the imposter went (did this many, many times) and how grief can blind people to seemingly obvious truths

The change of eye colour, the accent, ect.
The family definitely knew he wasn't their lost son, but for some reason they played along.
Makes you wonder if they were behind the disappearing of their son in the first place

Huh, sounds like the family is the reason he was missing and this french dude allowed them not to be investigated. he went grom blond hair and blue eyes, to brown hair brown eyes. and where are the tattoos
reply

I doubt falling for, but now days i would have just played along. Just like when a friend says they are now to be addressed as a male. Okay cool just stay your good ol self and I d k.

I am wondering about Nicholas's tattoos and if the imposter always kept them covered or got fake ones. Coming back without tattoos would be another giveaway

This story is crazier than The LW Wright story where he scammed his way into racing at Talladega in the NASCAR Cup Series in 1982

Blue eyes can get a bit hazely, but they don't turn completely brown. That would have been one of the first things i would have noticed.
