Things You Didn't Know About Atilla the Hun

Who was Attila the Hun? Attila the Hun is known as the most prolific killer of the Early Middle Ages. But the facts about Attila's life are much more complicated than that. Born into the royalty of a small but ambitious steppe tribe, Attila and his brother Bleda were groomed for a life of combat. They ascended to control the Hunnic Empire, and were soon at war with Rome. Information on Attila the Hun is hard to come by and often biased. We know he was an innovative general feared by his enemies, but did you know that his conquests were instrumental in founding the city of Venice? Or that one of his greatest invasions started with a possibly fraudulent marriage proposal? TVpompayayansar31: Attila is likely a Gothic corruption or even nickname given by his Gothic subjects. Presumably his actual eponym was Avitohol, ancient Turkic title used by Eurasian Oghur tribes like Hunno-Bulgars which translates to Son of the Deer, the totemic animal of the Huns

I have never seen a more badass title than Scouge of God and according to some linguists, his name means Little Father and also Universal Leader. Like, how much more badass can you get, man? Fighting both Roman Empires and winning against them and only losing one battle in your entire career that isn't even a defeat, more of a stalemate. A year later, he invaded Italy, and the only thing that saved Rome that day from Attila's hands was his army's tiredness after weeks of wrecking dozens of Roman cities and lacking supplies. Germanic tribes finished what he started. Turkic and Mongolian people are so lucky to have a man like him in their history. Also a fan fact: 1000 years after Attila's death, Constantinople falls to the Turks. Can you believe this? History is full of amazing stuff!

By 441, the I-Iuns under their military genius Attila, the Scourge of God, were dominant in central Europe from the Caspian almost to the Rhine. They defeated the Eastern Roman Emperor Theodosius II, and the terrified Goths in their path believed the Huns were the offspring of the witches of Scythia who had copulated with the demons of hell.

I want to learn about famous people, like musicians, that were in the military. I went to the same combat medic school as a serial killer. Kinda neat, unless i turn out to be a serial killer then its weird. Or something

I'm honestly shocked you were able to miss this but Attila was reportedly stopped from going after Rome by Pope Leo I who persuaded him to not harass the peninsula proper.
