Why We See Faces In Objects

From the fronts of cars to weirdly human knots on trees, people see faces in the strangest places. But have you ever wondered why we see faces everywhere? It turns out there's a name for that phenomenon: pareidolia, which describes humanity's ability to identify discernible images in places where there aren't any. In attempting to understand pareidolia, researchers have proposed several scientific and behavioral explanations.

I have Scitzoaffective disorder which is schizophrenia and bipolar disorder mixed together. If I m not properly medicated I see things in everything. Scary demons mostly. It can be in wood grain, paint almost anything. Sometimes I can see scapes of working things like hell. It s very scary. Now that I m on a proper cocktail of medication it doesn t happen hardly at all. So I don t see little silly faces like the pictures you were showing. I can see those too but this goes well beyond that. So scientists say that schizophrenics can see a lot more things In inanimate objects such as wood grain, paint, etc. So you should add that to your video as well. But maybe you don t know enough about it to report on it. Idk. Just thought I d add my 2 cents to your video. You can do what you want with my information. Just to educate yourself if anything.

When they were talking about the brain changing its perception of eye direction in images, I thought about when I had vertigo. It seems that while you have vertigo, the brain is trying to make sense of this weird spinning world you are seeing now. When my vertigo ended after about six weeks, I needed eye exercises to retrain my brain to get back to where I was before my brain tried to make sense of the dizzy world. I had vertigo again later, but did the Epley manuever that stopped the vertigo within a day. I did not need the eye exercises, I guess, because my brain had not made perception changes yet due to the spinning of th vertigo.

I appreciate the autism shout out. I do want to caution about using jigsaw puzzle pieces to represent autism. It's seen as a harmful stereotype by some autistic adults, and it's used as a symbol by Autism Speaks, and organization many autistic adults see as harmful, including allegations of cruelty.
Not accusing anyone of being evil out of genuine ignorance! Just pointing out it's something to look into if you're interested in portraying autism and neurodiversity more prominently in the future.

Actually, weird history narrator you got it wrong and I very rarely say this because I love you so much, the only two guarantees you have in this life are as follows to remain whatever race or creed you are born in and then death, so, in other words, in my case, only two things, I have to do are stay black and die.

What is even more fascinating is if you just showed all the images without mentioning the topic, chances are, that on many of the photos it would take longer or never in some cases for the face to be noticed. The fact that my brain is expecting it makes it all good to go to make any pattern appear like a face.

The actor Brad Pitt (who also went to the University of Missouri) has prosopagnosia, a rare neurological disorder commonly referred to as face blindness. (New York Times)
In an interview with GQ, he has stated that for years he had struggled for years to recognize people's faces. (New York Times)

The brain takes so long to process sight, that races (like track and field races) are launched by a starter pistol because the brain processes sound faster than light.
If you actually look into how the brain tricks you into thinking you see something, it's pretty amazing.

0: 35 That image of potentially covert narcissism reminds me of the music video Anti-Hero by Taylor Swift.
It has been on the Billboard Top 100 charts longer than any current song (53 weeks) and is currently at #20 (just moved up from #25)

The mocking tone the narrator uses when reading quotes makes it seem like he s making fun of everything being said. I m not sure why this has started but I really hope it doesn t continue.

I saw a TV program 20 or more years ago about Japanese car designers having to ensure their vehicles had friendly faces.
Whoever curated the image selection should get a bonus, IMO.

I used to see Steven Tyler in my ceiling in my childhood home. Look up and his face was always there. I would get my friends to lay there until they could see him too. Weird I know?

One night I saw an old man with a walking stick coming towards me in a field.
It was actually a cow and I had mistaken it's markings for a whole human figure!

1: 00 That reminds me of an eye color change on the music video Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift, currently the #1 hit on the Billboard Charts.
