Why Common Items Are Specific Colors

We often don't give a second thought to the color of everyday items. Of course a pencil is yellow! Well, yes, a candy cane should be red and white. But these things didn't always have these telltale colors. Some were changed - to be easier marketed, or for safety reasons. Sometimes the iconic color was an accident during the creation process, or simply the easiest thing people had on hand. So if you've ever wondered why barns are red or tennis balls are yellow (or green, this video is for you!

And the only reason why iron oxide is so plentiful and accessible in the first place is because the oxygenation of ancient earth by farting microbes caused it (iron) to precipitate out of the oceans (as iron oxide. The oceans literally rusted out. But why was there so much iron dissolved in the oceans? Where did it come from? Simplistically speaking, iron is the heaviest and final element that can be produced by nuclear fusion by all the stars of the universe that don t go supernovae.
TLDR: Rotting star carcasses seeded the early oceans with nuclear fusion dead end iron that gassy critters rusted out so that nekkid apes could cheaply paint their cow houses red.

6: 35 Interesting fact about dogs and tennis balls. Due to the fact that dogs are colour blind research has shown that they actually enjoy red tennis balls over green ones as the most common area u would be playing fetch with ur dog is a grassy area which a green tennis ball makes very hard for the dog to find. This is why when u throw a green tennis ball in a grassy park for example it takes ur dog FOREVER to find it even though ITS RIGHT THERE. So to make fetch more enjoyable for both ur dog and u don't use green tennis balls when playing fetch as ur dog CANT SEE GREEN.

That's all fine, but speaking of the requirement that we cry out cow! upon spotting a cow, where did that rule come from? Similarly, though not so often relevant in much of the world, it is also required to exclaim Oh! It's a camel! when an unexpected camel is encountered. Where did those rules come from? Note that we're only required to call out squirrel! if there is a dog around. To my knowledge there is no requirement to call out pigeon! under any circumstance. So it's all very confusing and we need guidance.

The title should say Why American items. as many things mentioned have different colors in different countries, and there are no standard colors for things like pencils. By the way the explanation given is why one company made yellow pencils, not that all pencils in the world are yellow - not even in the USA. And so on with all explanations. The few more acceptable ones were the doctors' coats, transit signs - and tennis balls.

- 5: 49 Tennis-balls are chartreuse.
- 11: 22 Hospital fabrics (patient-gowns, bed-sheets, lab-coats, masks, hair-coverings, etc) are supposed to be white because it makes it easier to see stains and know if they're dirty. That's why it's absurd that some doctors wear scrubs or masks or durags, and such with colors and _textures_ that make it hard to see bodily fluids.

Man its crazy how easily marketing has changed our culture over decades. We have become a culture of consumers and the majority doesnt even realize or see an issue. Leave well enough alone is the most dangerous statement to someone trying to sell stuff haha.
