Everything Michael Bay’s Pearl Harbor Got Wrong

No one goes to watch a Michael Bay movie expecting historical accuracy. But the chasm between Pearl Harbor the movie and real Pearl Harbor facts, as shown in photos from December 7, 1941, is clear. The film contains an armada-sized number of errors about the military, including the wrong planes, nuclear-powered subs before the advent of nuclear power, and magical 21st-century radio technology. . And then there are all the plot holes.

I don’t know if it was done on purpose, but to have a video about gross inaccuracies in a movie that includes a gross in accuracy is either hilarious, very meta-, or just disappointing.
Roosevelt didn’t have polio as a child. He had it when he was 40 years old and on vacation with his entire family. Polio is normally a childhood disease, but much like chickenpox, it can be far more deadly for adults who get it. The fact that he survived was a miracle in and of itself.
The only pass that I will give the movie is about the hospital Being bombed. It’s not that far of a leap to say they wanted to take out the place that could heal up any of the wounded and injured sailors, and other military personnel. Outside of that, this movie is largely complete crap, and I only use the actual taxi in my classes to give students an OK to decent idea of what happened that day

I can’t stand Michale’s and Hollywood explosions with fireworks. If you’ve ever seen a military high explosive detonate, they seem very quick and with a shock wave/pressure front due to the high explosives high expansion velocity. Films use a low explosion, that result in a far slower, more dramatic fireball for dramatic effect. Perhaps they could use a low explosive, crop just that part of the scene, and speed it up in post. Maybe some CGI coupled with practical effects would solve this, with a supersonic shockwave/pressure front. That would be dope. If an entire film had that, it would almost seem like combat footage, even before it was a thing.

10: 30 Why the studio couldn't afford to hire a consultant
When I was in the military, I served under this one major. Outstanding officer, a real stand up guy. I was proud to serve under him. Seven years after I left the military, I made his acquaintance again, and by this time, he was a movie consultant. He had turned into a smug, insincere, name dropping, real loser of a human being. Two of the movies (I won't name here) that he consulted on made major mistakes and he probably didn't care because he was schmoozing with the movie director and lead actor.

Given when Michael Bay's Pearl Harbor was made he could has used all the CGI he needed to create the historical accurate look and feel of Pearl Harbor back in 1941. Why the hack are we seeing the current day mothed ball ships (eg. Knox class frigate) in the background That movie was a waste of $$ to watch. Kate Beckinsale in her 1940s outfit is about the only good thing.
When Tora Tora Tora was filmed in 1971 they had to use whatever plastic models and make-believe existing ships but yet they kept things as historically accurate as possible.

After I watched the Honest Trailer's parody trailer for Pearl Harbor, I came up with the idea that the writers were trying to cram as many people who were at Pearl Harbor as they could into the movie by combining their stories into the main characters but failed. Look up the trailer and you might have an idea of what I'm talking about but it doesn't make the movie any better.

Since Michael Bay is a total idiot and left out the fact that a US serving armed servicemen would have to resign his commission in order to fight in England during the Battle of Britain ever heard of a flying Tigers well they were a unit of US army air service men that went over to China before the attack on Pearl Harbour to fight the Japanese.

The deadliest day, as you put it, in all of recorded Hawaiian history, dates back to 1893, when white people decided to overthrow our Kingdom. The history books will say Pearl Harbor because of the attack. But its Hawaii - make history about Hawaii involve actual Hawaiians
Okay, thank you very much

Fun Fact: Today April 7th is the anniversary of the sinking of the largest Battleship to ever be put to sea, the Japanese Battleship Yamato. It became sort of influential in anime and manga as a sort of basis for the idea of a space ship with a bunch of naval-ship esque canons but with lasers.

Yes facts are important to those of us who like history. What amazed me is you got a fact wrong on a video showing how someone else got it wrong. Glen Miller wasn’t a trumpet player. He was a trombone player and the pic you used shows as such. Lol

Michael bay is a teenage boy in a middle age man’s body. He doesn’t care about accuracy as long as he can enjoy explosions, special effects, the US military, sports cars and supermodel college women flaunting themselves

I was in hawaii when this was filmed. You could see the set from my house where they filmed the bombing. Also. My dads friend is in the scene when cuba gooding jr is firing the machine gun. Hes one of the dead guys.

People need to remember this is a movie and not a documentary. Movies like these are made to entertain, tell a story and make money. There is a reason why documentaries don’t draw in crowds like movies do.

Micheal Bay is like nickelback. It's just fun to Hate on him. Accurate or not. Michael Bay is the best action movie film maker ever. Who want s plot. When you have a slow motion walk behind an explosion.

Hollywood film producers and directors could certainly benefit from working with Weird History.
Then the historical facts could be more accurate AND unique historical elements could be recognized.

I might be the only person who liked the Pearl Harbor movie. The romantic story was a little weird and probably in bad taste considering the topic. It's like making a romance story about 9/11.

I LITERALLY just watched this movie yesterday for the first time (because I’ve been watching lots of historical based movies) - terrible movie. Lol. But thank you for the video!

Looks like Weird History got something wrong: President Roosevelt DID NOT contract polio as a child; he was an adult when that dreadful disease attacked him.

Leave it to Hollywood to screw thinks up in a move instead of keeping it accurate like they should in a movie like this and others.
