It doesnt need to be a giant death laser it can be anything else helpfully to humanity its only that expensive if it's a military weapon the moon is perfect for growing food underground to make an atmosphere on the moon it's alot cheaper then building a weapon robots can build tunnels on the moon perfect for air dropping food to any continent

They have lasers that can be powered by moon solar and it beams the electricity to earth we could have all electric planes that recharge during flight and self charging everything without all the tons of electric wires in 50 years they'll beam hundreds of killowats a second anywhere on earth from orbit

I don't understand why money is involved at all - this is theorycrafting -A Deathstar- If there was a practical reason for this - such as legitimate planetary defense where if it was do - or be extinct, I have a strange feeling we'd find a way to do it without -spending money- per-say.

If we can 3D print houses, I'm sure we'll get close enough to 3D print a Death Star cheaply. We don't have to make it as life sized as the movies but big enough to sustain a crew/guest up to a billion people on board.

Why do you even need a crew? Or anything other than the laser, and a star to hook it up to? Just send a ship up when something needs maintenance.
