Well technically wwIII happened a long time ago. See, before Alexander the great, pretty much the world went to war, see history of the 300. Alexander the Great eventually came along for world conquest. Then the Roman Empire set out for world conquest. So if you do a deep dive into the history of the world, today would be up in the 20s.

Gloabl war or disaster human survival would be only the young able body would be considered a valuable resource. Everyone else is a burden. Government has contingency plans that involves that scenario. Elderly frail. sick disabled mentally ill would not be saved. The worst case situation is survival of the fittest.
