What If All Supermarkets Closed?

There are roughly 40, 000 retailers in the U. S. that would be classified as grocery stores. They range in size, and style, and the type of goods they provide. But, these are the places where most people in developed countries get their food. And they often get much more than they need. So what if they simply stopped operating? How would we adapt to life without the one-stop shop? Thumbnail image by Exploring The Unbeaten Path

A positive -What If- scenario? As long as you are willing to give up many modern shopping conveniences.
Think about it: you could still shop at Farmer's Markets but fresh veggies and fruit would not be available year-round and the variety of what was available would depend on your proximity to farmland so home canning and jarring would see a major rebound, the old -butcher shops- would come back, daily milk delivery could come back, no problem ordering -non-perishables- online. Modern grocery stores, -Big Box- stores or even 7-11s are very convenient but they are not critical necessities; but I may be I'm saying that because I am old enough to remember a time before Costcos or Walmarts and a time when 7-11 was only for late beer-runs or a Big Gulp or candy.

If all grocery stores close.
-people would be forced to be self-sustainable by farming their own goods. Small businesses will be encouraged. No more multi-billionaire grocery stores stealing the limelight due to the advantage of bulk investment. -
Idk about you but that sounds like hell!

If all the supermarkets close we would have to go back to an old fashion way of living, there was a time when they didn-t have supermarkets so we would have to grow our own food all the time. We would have more farmland again like we did in early America, and that-s what I think would happen.
reply

If all groceries stores closed, people would start robbing and stealing from each other to meet their own personal and familial needs long before we'd come together as a community to establish a more sustainable way of life.

If you living in the country or rural area this isn-t concerning -people possibly would still freak out though- if you live in city/suburbs then you should be worried because the mayhem of people behaviors.

Supermarkets aren't going to close. I've been in that business for over 20 years, the one I'm at now has 200 employees and only 3 won't show up due to being afraid of the virus. We're a tough bunch.

This guy is living in a fairy tale if he thinks we will be a better people if we didnt have grocery stores, there would be pandemonium on the streets not us getting together singing we are the world

A world without supermarkets can spell chaos to shoppers and families, however this can make people eat and buy healthy and also encourage the use of grocery stores and farming.

Closure of supermarkets and grocery stores can wreak havoc in the lives of many people. On the flip side, this can help people buy items which are essential to them, sometimes.
