What If Europa Were Earth's Moon?

Alright, I tink it-s time for a change-up. Let-s do a little spring cleaning, and redecorate our Solar System. Now, I know you-re a big fan of the Moon, but it-s so last season. Let-s get something fresh, something snazzier. How about Europa? I know, I know, the Moon is a classic, but Europa could be a heck of an upgrade. Oh, and before you ask, the trade was mutual. The Moon is just fine. So, we-ll just moon-swap with Jupiter. What-s the worst that can happen? What secrets does Europa have in store for us? Would Europa be the perfect addition to our night sky? Or did we mess up really, really badly?

Dig out 10 ' of river bed and cast and set two 10' pipelines to being Atlantic ocean water to every house, use steam distiller for sale free disinfected water at the kitchen sink, dump waste water into sealed pipelines. It took a turn 2 years to dig out 10' of riverbed, everyone could be back to work working in every town and we'd be at with new infrastructure. Don't put salt in your water, have more salt for more roads in the winter. Use electrolysis for energy from salt water. At the very least, feed rivers with desal water immediately to overcome drought shortages, no problem

Europa already has life almost certainly. If the estimated volume of liquid water is anywhere near the mark then it probably has more microbial lifeforms on it than Earth does. It may have -Higher life forms also of course. If so we should leave it alone. Homo Sapiens is an invasive species. We contaminate and infest all we touch under this absurd illusion that we must have Knowledge. In the distant future when the Sun throws a few hiccups and wipes out all life on Earth. Europa. probably Ganymede also will be at a safe distance. Since any life forms on these worlds do not depend on the sun at all. They should still be there when the Sun has gone to a white dwarf. Jupiter will still orbit as it does now. Hopefully anyway. This may all sound a little Anti Human but I believe most strongly that we have no right to contaminate other worlds. The diversity of Life on Earth probably makes it very rare in galactic terms and here we all are ripping the guts out of it so we can drive around in our shiny cars or hurl missiles at one another etc etc. Scientists tell us we are 98% chimpanzee. -And don't it show-!

I mean tbh. Europa and Io are the most Moon like bodies and the gravity would be pretty much the same. Yes there would be less which would make the nutrient cycle and heating of our planet due to gravity less efficient but wouldn-t at all stop it. The axis effects probably wouldn-t be as varied or as dramatic as the narrator says because once again Europa is, as far as mass goes and size, isn-t far off from the moon, followed by Neptune-s largest moon triton. Phobos and Deimos small asteroid that orbit mars not only produce small tidal effects and stabilize the axis (not rly well but better than nothing) and produces a combined moon light similar to the moon(for Phobos) and Venus (for Deimos)
TLDR: the effects of Europa wouldn-t be as extreme as the narrator portrays because it-s very Moon like.

Europa might be a bit smaller than our moon but what if it were closer to Earth than what our moon is, thus maybe having its weaker gravity having a greater effect on Earth's oceans. Where as the moon being close to 240000 miles away makes its gravity have the effect it does.
Also with it being closer too the sun, then that'll cause must if not all the ice to melt down causing a global ocean too form and an atmosphere of mostly water vapor too form, thus how bright it'll be might likely be different.

reply

Mom, why is the moon so bright
Mom: idk but it doesn't looks like the moon
Ok and?
Mom: I think someone made a deal to swap the Moon with Europa
What's europa?
Mom: A moon of Jupiter which is smaller than Our recent moon
: ( Now no more big waves
Mom: Big waves will be the thing of the past.
MOM I DON'T SEE OUR NEW MOON! AND WHY DO I HEAR A EXPLOSION- FROM THE SKY?

reply

I think, Europa wouldn't shine as bright once the ice has melted. Also we wouldn't have a full Europa every night. The tides being smaller, yes, I could see that affecting the planet, but maybe not that bad. I would be so curious about exploring it. Would it turn into a water world? We would, most likely, have to explore it by submarine. It would be so cool if we found it was full of sea life.
reply

One thing also not mentioned: now being that close to the Sun, Europa will have the high daytime temperature. That will melt the ice away on Europa with no atmosphere to control it; no atmosphere pressure = water boils immediately when it melts. All the water will be lost.
reply

I disagree. Europa will reduce climate change by reducing our nighttime lighting needs. And the lower gravity would delay, perhaps eliminate sea level rise in this century because of lower tides. I vote to move Europa over and save us from extinction.
reply

What if we had the ability to move Europa so it became a moon of Venus? Venus is a lot closer to the Sun. Would it take long for the ice to melt and boil away? Could the water be used for future terraforming of Venus?
reply

Europa's ice would melt and it would be an ocean world and who knows what's underneath.
Add that any asteroid strike would send plumes of water/ice into the sky and onto our world. then the rest of what they said

reply

If Europa is in place of Moon, ice on surface would melt so it would become water world. Therefore, high reflectivity of ice would be gone. It might soon lose it's water since it doesn't have atmosphere.
reply

If Europa is our moon, most likely there will be atmosphere and not much ice on its surface. Europa will be an ocean moon. This means it will not reflect so much sunlight as predicted in the video.
reply

Earth: I: hmmm shes gonna orbit me?
Luna: nuuuuuu
Europa: I have water like earth but ice over it, Jupiter is this a good idea?
Jupiter: yes Europa, -grabs moon/luna-i will be taking her.

reply

What if we punched Europa closer to Earth without setting it on a collision course or get it past the Roche Limit and end up turning it into a ring

How about a What If green stars existed? What temperature would they be and what would it be like if our sun was one
reply

That introduction is the best (if the introduction was in a book I wil not mind reading it even if the is 2000 pages)
reply

It'd be brighter then Earth's moon, so during a full moon Europa would light up Earth's sky that night would be gone.
reply

Fun fact in italian Europe is actually Europa so it's literally the same word for both moon and continent
